Question Living

If a woman who dresses provocative is raped, did she have it coming to her?

chrissy~Shopaholic October 10, 2009 19:31:24

No, every woman has the right to say no to unwanted sexual advances. However, a woman should use good judgment when picking her attire to avoid altercations. You know the ole saying, " If you go looking for trouble".

Well, would you consider someone dressing sharp to be a good provocation for being mugged?

Would you consider someone being tall and stocky a good provocation for someone taking a cheap shot at them? Like some dipstick with an inferiority complex "picking on the biggest guy".

How about driving a nice car? Does that entitle someone else to steal it from you?

Rape is a crime of violence, not of sex. If some pig decides that he's gotta "take her down a notch" he has a mental problem. Either he gets help before he does it, or he gets beat after he does it.

    Rape isn't sexy, it's violence.

Having said this, if someone dresses like a prostitute or like someone who is "easy" they should not be upset if a guy approaches them and is "provocative" with them. Provocative meaning that they ask her out or talk sexy to her or treat her like a sex object.

Still doesn't excuse sexual assault..... such actions totally disgust me.

dressing like a slut is going to turn guys on, and it's like she's just advertising herself to get it, and they are going to be more likely to attack. I wouldn't be surprised if they think she wants it, dressing like a prostitute or something.

No, a raper is a sick person with no control on his instics and a girl should be free to wear whatever she wants without fearing of getting rape and by the way i'm not exactly supporting that kind of dresses i'm just saying it's a personal freedom.

    Absolutly not.

The only reason anyone ever says something like that is once again an excuse for actions. I am tired of the excuses. Besides what is wrong with a woman who has it dressing to show it. Did I say hell no it not yet just in case I did not hell no.

women should be able to dress how they want without this being used as a pathetic excuse for someone raping them, funnily enough there has been a news story over here about 2 guys who were out on a stag night and they were all dressed up as women, 2 other idiots who had just started a fight outside a nightclub thought they would then start on these guys calling them gay and shouting shit at them, unfortunately for them the guys dressed up were cage fighters!
nothing to do with the question i know but its really funny and shows that you shouldnt judge a book by its cover

she has the right in america to dress as she wants to in many cases; not all. eventhough, she is not responsible for the thoughts and actions of those that will harm or rape her in any way.

I would say no, rape is wrong, But on a token, i can understand how if a person is a woman hater and has issues, and sees a woman wearing almost nothing, I can see how that might be a turning point

No, but rarely are provocatively, dressed women attacked. They are usually surrounded by admirers. But, date rape possibly....if she doesn't know the person and puts herself in a place where they are alone....she would have to take SOME responsibility for the decision to be alone with a stranger, dressed to kill.
The ones who make it into the news are usually unsuspecting women, dressed in jeans or some old lady that lives alone, so...there you are.

Rape is not about sex, it is about power and anger. Its not about how the person looks or dresses its about who the rapist thinks he can victimize. I personally think if a woman walks down the street like Lady Godiva she still does not deserve to be brutilized.

This implies that one person is responsible for the behavior of another. This is carried to the extreme in countries where women are expected to be covered from head to toe and walk slowly and quietly so that men won't be aroused.

no- no means no- provocation is often claimed by those men who want to justify their actions- a woman should be able to walk around naked and not be raped

    Nuts.
    And what about children...
A woman that wants bad attention will where whatever she wants. Not all rapes happen like this
However my dad owned 4 bars and I seen it happen....
Most of those girls came back the next day and could care less...
    They did it again anyway.
    They were not a victem.
They were part of the problem.
