Absolutely, A teacher is bound by a strict code of professional conduct. It would be completely unethical at the very least and depending on the age of the student it could be illegal.reply - rspell 2012/08/05 22:24:17
+1In our state, one would violate the code of ethics by dating any student of a k-12 school, even if they were of age.reply - Muskoka rspell 2012/08/06 02:31:39
Even in college the code of ethics applyreply - Kashee 2012/08/05 19:58:19
I think if it's different colleges and the student is of age. I don't know about in high school, even if the student would be of age.reply - Muskoka Kashee 2012/08/06 02:32:18

Yes, I know. I get the problem in high schools with any teacher student. I get the problem in a University with a professor and student. I don't particularly get the problem in unaffiliated Universities as long as they are both consenting adults.reply - Muskoka Kashee 2012/08/06 03:50:10
It has to do with the contract signed by the instructor when they accept their job. It is an ethics and conduct clause and is very specific to do with their behavior. It has a very wide broad scope of general professional behavior. The university or college can use it at their discretion.reply - Kashee Muskoka 2012/08/06 14:45:39
Ok. I knew there were regulations within a University. I just didn't know that it would extend to dating students outside of that University.reply - Muskoka Kashee 2012/08/06 18:23:30
+1It does not apply to just the university, it extend to their entire social life in general. It has nothing to do with the other university at all.reply - Rosalie 2012/08/05 16:22:34

It could be completely unethical for the teacher according to their contract.reply - L1 Muskoka 2012/08/06 02:47:50
I agree even if it's college age because of the conflict of interest.reply - Muskoka L1 2012/08/06 03:50:31

+1I don't believe there's anything illegal about a student/teacher relationship....only if the student is underage. It is frowned upon, however, and the teacher could probably lose their job over it and face humiliation and unacceptance from the public.reply -
