If a close friend of yours became a drug addict, and begged you for money, would you give it to him/her? What if they threaten to end your friendship?

No one should give money to a drug addict. If they need good, buy them food, but never money.

thank you for commenting. i asked this question more or less out of morality. i wanted to make sure i was doing the right thing by saying no. some of my other friends dont think so tho.

You can support your friend without contributing to their problem. You should never be an enabler to addicts it will distroy them.

I have had this, don't worry they may be angry at the time but they will not end your friendship over it.

My friend who has been on and off a cokehead calls me all kind of names when he tries to lend cash and he's high or drunk. I see him again a week later and he's sober and all sorry and don't blame me for not lending him the cash. That's just how it is when their addicted.

No, my flat is near burglar proof. Why has your friend done that to you?

Sounds like he needs stopping somehow!
Wouldn't be a friend if he broke in to your house though.

yeah. his own mother called the police on him today so maybe he'll straighten up. i highly doubt it though, because this is his 4th arrest

Ive been wondering if just abandoning my friend would be morally wrong, but seeing the way he treats us, i think its safe to say, my nose would b clean by doing so. he broke into his friends houses, only to steal loose cash and an ipod, among other small stuff

Yeah, there might be no more you can do at the moment until a time when he wants to stop.

I wouldn't give them anything but the words of advise to seek help. If they threatened to end the friendship, that's they're doing and not mine. I wouldn't support someone destroying their lives. I've seen what drug use does to people. It's not worth it and not something I allow in my life.

Yeah my friend asked me for cash the other day. he said it was for gas so he could get to work. i know he hasnt had a job in 5 months... and he's admitted b4 that he's addicted ( or used to be, as he claims) to heroin. so yeah

It's tough to see your friends or family go through it, but it's their choice. No one is forcing them to do it and you don't have to take the abuse, verbal or otherwise for not giving into their addictions. I hope for you, you'll continue to say no and that your friend survives it. Nothing good ever comes from people staying on drugs. Only a long strung out death.
