A gay couple whose wedding announcement was declined by The Forum told the newspaper’s editor Tuesday that the conflict is not just about them anymore.

Kelsey Smith, 27, of Fargo, and Allison Johnson, 31, of Austin, Texas, were invited in to discuss the matter by Forum Editor Matthew Von Pinnon early Tuesday afternoon. They told him the policy was outdated and based on discrimination.

Freedom of the Press does NOT mean the freedom to censor advertising. Hope they sue the paper.

Unfortunately, I know this happens in more situation than just this. The couple deserves recognition for finding love, everyone does. Some people just don't get that love's love, no matter the gender.

How can a newspaper, claim to be reporting the news, without a bias, when they refuse service to someone because of a rigid ideology?

They can print all the negative things that are happening in the area such as shootings, robberies and such, but they have a problem printing something that expresses love and happiness? That's ridiculous. No wonder people are so miserable all the time. Nothing good ever happens in the news.

And just dumb. Papers get paid to print announcements. Why turn away customers and risk losing advertisers (you know they will if there is enough of a protest). Bad business decision, you can't use your business to alienate a segment of people and expect to stay working (unless maybe your business is in the Bible belt, but that still doesn't make it right, I was just elaborating on the business side of it.)

Isn't it the same as the article about wedding cake for gays?
The reason is foul but it's justified for private business to choose it's customers..

Well they actually ARE getting married. Not posting the announcement is not going to change that.

It just makes sense to post it since they ARE getting married.
I wouldn't call the newspaper "idiot" though, because where they come from, that's probably the majority of the town's morals and they didn't want to cause a commotion.
