I said ATHEISM, not Satanism! Do you have anything against non-religious people?

Atheism: The belief that no God exists.
Agnosticism: The belief that God's non-existence cannot be proved any more than his existence can be proved.
I'm an agnostic, personally, but not because "What if God does exist? Shouldn't I remain agnostic just in case?" but because I legitimately believe that it's not impossible for a deity to exist, but if it is, it's probably not any one humans worship. So why bother trying to please the maybe-existing God?
Lately, I've been running into a lot of religious poop. I don't know why; maybe I'm just unlucky. But I've noticed that most people who think they're better than the non-religious tend to make the same arguments.
"You're part of Satan's team if you're atheistic!"
Yes, I have actually heard this. And I've heard it implied by many, many others. But what kind of thoughts are those? An atheist cannot work for Satan if they DON'T BELIEVE IN SATAN ANYMORE THAN THEY BELIEVE IN GOD. Yes, some are annoying when they try to reason with religious people without prompting, but just because I don't believe in God, doesn't mean I'm a bad person, right? With this (or before this) always comes:
"Atheists have no morals!"
Because, of course, only religious texts can give people morals. People cannot just be good because they are. Can I respond with the tale of the Good Samaritan? (Yes, I have read your Bible, imagine that!) First, a Priest walks by and ignores the dying man on the road. He was too occupied worshiping his God to actually do good. But someone does-- someone who is not really part of what was the "right religion".
And atheists do good without a more selfish purpose. Not to generalize, but at the end of the day, a Christian doing good is doing it for their God. ("It was never between you and them anyways"). An atheist does good to help the people who are here, without that ulterior motive.
"You're going to go to hell!"
Threatening people with a hell they do not believe in is always the best way to go, after all.
I said ATHEISM, not SATANISM. People need to stop acting like not believing is a terrible crime. What's wrong with not believing? In fact, I'm going to argue that even if God does exist, being an atheist still is not wrong.
Someone "wise" once said, "It's better to believe and be wrong than to not believe and be wrong." But once cannot just force themselves to believe. You can't say, "Well, I'll believe so I don't go to hell in case God does exist", but that's not faith. If God requires unconditional faith, then this argument is just silly. You still won't believe, even though you pretend you do. And, at the end of it, you'll have devoted your life to a lie to yourself, and an omniscient God will know this, and if atheists are automatically sent to hell for not believing, you're doomed anyways. Why not let yourself live according to what you actually believe?
If God is so arrogant that he will reward anyone who believes in him (and seriously confesses and feels bad for their sins) and condemn people to ETERNAL SUFFERING because they don't WORSHIP HIM, then what kind of God is he? Not an all-loving one, I propose. Furthermore, most of the other religions in the world are going to hell as well. I'd rather suffer with them, thank you very much, then spend an eternity with a God who is all about himself. If your God cannot accept a person who tries to be good, to do good, and live according to morals not dissimilar to that which he promotes, but doesn't worship him and devote their lives to him... then your God is not worth believing in. If you truly have an all-loving God, he will not send atheists (or people of other religions) to suffer forever when they are good people despite their lack of faith.
So, why, exactly, is atheism such an immoral thing? The only sin I commit more than you probably do is sinning by not believing, and even though I don't go to confession and apologize to God for my sins, I apologize to those I committed the wrong against and genuinely feel bad because it was a bad thing, not because if I don't I'll go to hell.
Don't get me wrong, I don't think all Christians think themselves so high-and-mighty. I interact with normal Christians on a daily basis.
But, one must remember, with or without religion, good people will do good things and bad people will do bad things, but it takes religion to make good people do bad things.
Atheists can look at the world and think, "Wow, this is so beautiful. I'm so lucky to be alive in this vast, beautiful universe," without thinking the universe was created for them. They can look at their children and think, "I created that. Without me, this beautiful person could not exist" without thinking that their child exists because God destined them to, and nobody had a choice in the matter. And their love is between two people, not two people and their imaginary friend. It doesn't take God to appreciate the world, and I pity the people who are not truly seeing the beauty of living because their God is in the way.

You said that "with or without religion, good people will do good things and bad people will do bad things, but it takes religion to make good people do bad things."
I think it's more complicated than that, people can be influenced by other things too, like groups that aren't connected with religion. I do think that it's important to keep in mind that religion can influence good people to do evil things. One thing in my own religion that I think is wrong is circumcision (my parents agree with me about that). I definitely think that there is value in atheism; I just recently started thinking about the issue of circumcision when I kept seeing posts about it in the atheist section of the website Reddit (I also read about the issue in a question on Sodahead but I think it was the repetition that got me to accept that circumcision is wrong).
My world doesn't revolve around an innate need for everyone to agree with me.
BTW: "Well, I'll believe so I don't go to hell in case God does exist," is what I thought when I went to an elementary Christian school. You're exactly right! That's not faith! So it's hard for me to chose a religion, because I'll realize the point of it, and just try to cover my ass from eternal suffering, but not want to worship a being that is a universal energy. Can't I just be cognizant of its existence but not go through all the technicalities of gaining entrance to "heaven?" I thought you're saved when you note Jesus as your savior, not when I only follow guidelines of the Bible and also be so blind to the needs of modern society, i.e. gay marriage. I say that some of those guidelines apply to society at that time- they needed to populate, thus gay marriage was bad. Now, we need to stop making babies. Plus, I am not for one to go to church and sing for a being that is simply a universal energy and exists among all of us. It's just how it is. Does anyone understand me?
- sorry if my rant jumped all over the place lol
I would love to just create one of these self written posts about how I've been told about two dozen or so times, directly or indirectly, how the world would be a better place if "religious" people, meaning creationists, were dead.
It's ironic that people don't want me to meddle and try to impose my sense of morality on others, yet I see in the news every day where Christians are banned from preaching from sidewalks, from wearing crosses, the right not to participate in something that goes against their religious beliefs, being denied the right to speak in private in some places, fines for Bible get-togethers with friends, banned from funerals at military cemeteries, putting religious ads in papers, forced tolerance and "learning" about things that goes against religious tenets, Christian speech targeted as hate speech, denied some equal opportunities, no rights to private ownership, apparently throwing cement and other objects at Christians is not hate crime and will in fact be defended by police.
And then this great little society demands redistribution of wealth for "the common good." So I'm suppose to care about you, or not care about you, depending when you snap at me and tell me to. And when I'm given pe...

And when I'm given permission to take an interest in your life and try to help, it's generally in the form of being told I'm selfish or greedy, or a bigot (in the process of giving up one of my Amendment rights). I'll just have to wait for the crack of the whip to know when I'm suppose to care and be the good humanitarian, then f**k off and mind my own business.
If it's an consolation, you'll have many friends out there willing to defend you, patting you on the back and saying "wish they'd go away." Sorry if I might have bothered you. Take care.
Have my babies.
Here's a fun story: One time I expressed some interest in Wicca (I never said I was Wiccan or wanted to be in any way, I just said it sounded like an interesting belief system and I thought it was cool!) in front of my friends uber-Christian fundementalist dad and now he won't let her hang out with me because I'm a "devil worshipper". She has to lie to him to hang out with me! How does this even work?! If you don't believe in any god, yo
u don't believe in any devil!
Okay so now I did actually read the whole thing and yeah, I agree with you 100%
i only hate it when they are not willing to try and see it from our perspective
I usually say, " My belief does not effect my reading comprehension..."
