    I would return it.

Yes I would have returned the check. Better to return it as oppose to going on a HUGE shopping spree and they eventually contact me wanting their money back and I not have it.

Honesty is ALWAYS the BEST policy!!!

    I would return it.

Why wait for them to come and take it back?

    I would return it.

In a heart beat. I consider that stealing.
  • [-] Jimmy P February 10, 2008 00:39:22

    I would not return it.

    ARE YOU KIDDING??
What, honestly, would the government do with it if they lost track of it??
    NOTHING.
Therefore, it MUST be okay to keep it.
Or maybe he won the lottery... Inadvertently...
    :D

That's a tough one. I'd say, depending on the nature of the
circumstance....decide whether or not there would be severe
consequences. If not, I'd say...keep it. If so, and legal action
could commence, return it. Always weight the pros and cons.
However, knowing me and my conscience, I'd have to be
honest, and point out their mistake.

I would have rechecked my math. The IRS often calculates your tax return and sometimes what they feel you should get back is more than what you figured out.
  • [-] Jimmy P maditude February 10, 2008 00:40:22
if that's what happened, somebody REALLY SUCKS at math.

    I would not return it.

I would cash that sucker as fast as possible. I 'd put it in an interest bearing account until it cleared.Once it cleared, I'd take it all out in cold cash and hire a private plane to a nice island in the Carribean where the U.S. couldn't touch me. Yea baby,,,,, OK, back in the real world,,, The check probably would not have cleared and the issuing entity would have asked/demanded it back. In which case, I would have returned it.,,,,, I'd like to say more on this but I have to go and clip coupons.
  • [-] MissQue... OldManM... December 15, 2007 03:30:30
OldManMonty -- thanks for the laugh : )
Now, I gotta go too -- I like those 10-15% coupons, so I have to clip, clip, clip
  • [-] Chaz OldManM... February 02, 2008 16:11:11
You are right on! Put in an interest bearing account and sit back. You darn well know if the government makes a mistake in other than their own favor it will be found. ENJOY!!

Depends how I got it, and where it came from. but Most likely it
would be returned, because I know in the end If it wasn't intended for
me it will be taken from me in the future. somehow someway.

They would hunt you down like a dog to get it back! The best thing to do, would be to just call them and tell them what they did and get it straightened out.
  • [-] Maverick23 December 03, 2007 13:10:16

  • [-] Elizabeth December 03, 2007 11:46:42

what is the point of cashing it if they were going to find out how much the amount was...so i would have done the same thing though...but they should at least give him a 50 dollar check for doing so cuz they got him all exited with all the money:)
