    We buy large quantities of canned tomatoes. Our shelf is usually stocked up pretty well. We make a lot of chile verde, spaghetti sauce, soups, chile beans in the winter months.

    I think we are about out now. OH NOES!!

    I buy them when I make pasta sauce. When I make it I usually make a very large amount, it lasts about six months as long as it frozen in air tight containers.

    I make chili 4 or 5 times a year, and use them then. It's just me so it's kind of hard to get up the energy to put forth the effort to cook anything. I love a good meat sauce, but don't care for pasta, so occasionally I will make a good sauce and then make some garlic bread to sop it up with. I also like to once in a while take a can of green beans, fry up some finely diced bacon with a little diced onion, and add a can of whole pealed tomatoes to it. But like I say, it's just me so it's rare I really cook anything more than a piece of meat. I do love canned tomatoes though. Seems like it's the closest I can get to what a tomato is SUPPOSED to taste like anymore. They are one of the few things (gardenias and Azaleas/Rhododendrons being the others) that I don't seem to be able to grow very well.

    I love fresh tomatoes, and use tomato paste for cooking, but can't stand any other form of them. (I'm possibly the only living American who doesn't like ketchup.)

    It's a staple in our house but in the late summer my wife cans a lot of fresh ones from the market farm near here. Then when those run out we buy them by the case at costco. A lot of our favorite dishes use tomatoes.

    couple of times a year...I go to Aldi's or Save-a-Lot, and stock up on diced tomatoes with garlic, onions and basil..and I get the chili ready diced tomaotes also....I used to can my own...butr I can get good product cheap and keep lots of each in my pantry..Works great in sauces,stews, spanish rice and chilis

    They are higher in lycopine, an extremely powerful anti-oxidant and is believed to have strong anti-cancer properties, than regular tomatoes (which taste lousy this time of year anyhow).
