I was about 4-5. My grandfather left his cigarette on the ash tray, and I was there alone. I went over, took a big puff and exhaled, thinking it was cool seeing the smoke leave my mouth. I tried to take another puff, but my lungs literally shut down. I broke into the biggest coughing fit I can remember. My grandmother came in and simply said "was it good?" I was never tempted to take another puff, even in high school.

I was 15 and I smoked for 15 years and quit when I was 30. I have been smoke free for 8 years and 2 months.

actually smoking, um first time i remember it was at age eight. My mother made me smoke three cigs, which i hated. But before that, i ate a whole carton when i was probably one or two years old. And why i hate cigs so much.

When I was 18 and dated a girl who smoked Newport. She made me try, but thank heaven I never started smoking. It may be why I am alive today.!

I was 19. I smoked my first joint at age 18, had my first glass of wine at age 14, started drinking coffee at 16, and had my first piece of chocolate when I was a little kid (chocolate contains a cannabinoid called anandamide, as well as an amphetamine called phenylethylamine and a slightly addictive muscle relaxant called theobromine). I think it's fair to say that chocolate was my gateway drug :)

Probably about 15...the same age I had my LAST cigarette. Never could see the reasoning. I tried pipes later on because I liked the smell (of some), and cigars. Both lasted a very short time.

I was a teenager back in the 70's, I so thought it was cool, I had to practice smoking for fear of looking foolish. Sad really.

When I was 18 and thought it was very cool to smoke. We're talking the 60's here and it WAS a cool thing to do. Worst choice ever.
