Do you have a salty mouth? Or are you more likely to exclaim "Gosh darn it" than "#%^#*!"?
Scientists from England's Keele University have found that really letting the four-letter words fly can have a powerful painkilling effect, The Telegraph reports.
And here's the beauty of it: If you don't swear a lot, it works even better.
Researchers found that students were able to keep their hands submerged in icy water for longer when repeating a curse word. They also found that the pain-numbing effect was four times more likely to work in the volunteers who did not normally use foul language.
Makes sense to us: We've always thought the occasional F-bomb is most effective when it comes from someone who rarely drops one.

Ty ~ PHAET 2011/04/19 20:08:20I swear like a sailor

But I also say a lot of random things like "Buttermilk" or "Freakin gobbstopper"; when I'm mad that make me laugh or the people around me laugh.
I believe I could also, but I try to keep it to a minimum!
bad bad bad
Fortunately, my Grandmother lives with us now. So my son will have the same opportunity to grow up with his Great Grandmother that I had. Took me a little while to figure it all out, but that stuff's pretty important for a kid. Looking back, my fondest memories came from the kitchen of their house, there were too many priceless memories to not pass that on to him. And I finally figured out why my Great Grandpa never said too much. lol But when he did -- whew, look out. He'd drop a wisdom bomb on ya. =)
You're right, I don't regret a second of it. We need more of our Grandparents as teachers to pass on that wisdom you can't learn in school. I'd like to pass it on one day too. It's definitely worth every minute and more. =)
As for the people that mock me because i do tell me oh that is for poor uneducated people like me well guess what at least i don't have stick up my ass causing me pain so suck it
In 1958 I worked for an old WWII warrant Officer, and like all my contemporaries, swore like a Sailor.
One day he pulled me aside, and told me that if I wanted to advance in Life, I needed to act as if I had morals, and a good vocabulary.
I took that to heart, and within 4 years of that lesson, Went from E4 to E7. Seems like the officers gave me better evaluations. Was it because I swore less? I dunno for sure, but it seemed to work at the time. And as well in Civilian life for another 30 + years.
