What can we say? We're gaga over groceries! While we shop for our favorite snacks at the store, we often wonder if our grocery store etiquette is the same as others. Do most people sneak in samples at the candy bins while deciding whether or not they're going to buy the goods? What do you do when the cashier gives you too much change? And is it normal to go grocery shopping three times a week? We're finally going to find out.

Take our 8-question "Gaga Over Groceries" survey to have your vote count in the stats -- and have fun shopping!

I typically buy things as I need them. I live walking distance from a grocery store (2 actually) so there is no sense in buying food way in advance and letting it spoil. Why eat food that has been sitting in the fridge for a week when you can get food stocked earlier that day?

We actually limit it to once every other week for regular groceries, but if we want fresh veggies or meat instead of frozen, usually we end up going for a "fresh run" once between the once-every-other-week regular trips.

Actually, it is about twice a week, usually, but there was not that option. I like different markets for different items and also, the Dollar store for soap, batteries and other household items.

I don't really like keeping food around for a long time. If it's open, I generally try to use it within a few days.

I don't have a vehicle so I walk to wherever I need to go, which means I mainly shop at the local stores/markets. I can only carry so much at a time and gives me a reason to get out of the house (plus it's better for my wallet, health, and the planet).

With 4 teenagers (2 of them being teen boys) and a 2 year old in the house, a lot of our food is gone pretty quickly. The good news is we have 4 incomes to keep up with the food and the bills and the toys.

If you have a Kroger near you, as a senior get 10% off their brands every day ... If you have an Albertson's borrow a, in my case, a Dallas Cowboy jersy and go on game day and save 10% off the total ... If you ever go near a Walmart, in my case once or twice a month, you can take the ads from other stores in to them and they honor all ads ... I got 69 cent cantaloupes and 89 cent green grapes the other day ...

If I could get out of shopping that much, I certainly would. I hate to shop-everything is so darned expensive.
Whenever I'm putting something in my cart, I think to myself, "When my mom used to buy this when we were kids, it was only 49 cents-now it's $4."

    Twice a week.

On the weekend I do the big shopping trip, getting most of what I need. On Wednesday I do a "maintenance" trip. On that trip, I get things that I didn't get on the weekend for whatever reason, often relating to forgotten items/items I didn't know I needed and items that I need throughout the week but won't last that long if bought during the weekend trip.

Actually I do "big" shopping every other week and just refill on the staples (bread, milk, eggs, cheese etc.) every week. I have three kids (11, 13, and 16) and a landscaper husband who eat like there's no tomorrow.

I prefer fresh veggies, and milk does not last long at my house. Also, I have the policy that if it does not fit into my bikes basket- it's too much stuff.

Once a week is the plan, but some times we think of something different for dinner, so we go up to the store. We going walking everyday and it seem like we always stop at the dollars store.

BTW thats on 1 income coming in my husband works ( makes to much $$ for help) & I have only been able to find temp work here & there...

NOT looking for sympathy, just hoping for " change"for the better NOT the worse for the next 4 years. maybe some people do not know alot about politics, ... But we do know about our wallets our budgets & what it takes to take care of a home & family ((( NOT GOVMT funded))) & maybe if nothing else think about how the past 3 1/2 yrs their lifestyle has had to change over things they most likly where not able to control. WE can control this maddness to stop, WE can control NOT seeing gas 8-10$ a gallon if thing cont the way they are ( & if gas is that high we will be paying double for any product not grow in our back yards) think about what our grocery bill will be then???
