How Often Do You Drink Wine?

You!
Add Photos & Videos
Wine has been around since at least 4500 BC, and has played a major role in many civilizations, from the ancient Greeks who poured wine as libation to the gods, to Christianity, where the drink is used to represent the blood of Christ. Of course, wine is an alcoholic drink, so it's off limits to the under-aged and should be consumed in moderation, but as far as alcohol goes it's one your classier options.

Take this 7-question Quick Poll from Cellar360 and let us know what you think about wine -- if you drink it at all, on what occasions, how much you're willing to pay, etc. We'd love to hear from you!

A good hearty red or a nice crisp white.

Strong cheese with the red or chilled fruit with the white... yummy in winter and summer!

Beer's better food. And just as good for my health, if not better. (Key being moderation: one-two/day max. And that's a hard maximum.)

Even the "wine" at church is just grape juice.

Drinking alcohol is just not my thing!

Sometimes I break up the pattern a bit, just so I don't make a "habit" out of it, but usually I'll have two glasses of red wine at least three nights a week.

Yeah, pretty much every night with my dinner. A 4 to 6 oz. glass of red wine. It's supposed to be healthy.

We only have the non-alcoholic wines in our homes. If that counts as 'wine' then we drink it a few times a year.
  • Patric Tordgaard 2012/11/15 19:22:31
    Patric
hmm,,, would that not be .... Welch grape juice ???
  • Tordgaard Patric 2012/11/16 18:52:24
    Tordgaard
No, it's not grape juice. The juice is fermented (so the sugar turns to alcohol) then they remove the alcohol and bottle it under labels such as Ariel or Fre. I actually have two bottles of cabernet sauvignon (2006 and 2010) under the Ariel label on my shelf. It's far safer for diabetics since the sugar and alcohol are almost absent.
Naturally, if you like wine and have no medical problems that would prohibit drinking it, the "real stuff" has more body, nose, and whatever else wine is supposed to have.

hmm,, actually I was attempting to pour some humor into the discussion

will have to check this out, not for my self, no alcohol for me, but just out of general interest..
do you know how they remove the alcohol ?
  • Tordgaard Patric 2012/11/17 16:58:07 (edited)
    Tordgaard
Yes, I thought you were hitting me with a little wry humor :)
But I figured some folks might like to know that there really are 'denatured' wines on the market. If you do check them out, my family tells me they like the Fre (it might be Fré) better than the Ariel.
I believe the removal of the alcohol is done by filtration - perhaps passing it through activated charcoal.
  • Patric Tordgaard 2012/11/17 18:14:00
    Patric
denatured alcohol , has additives to make it non consumable..

not sure how you would pull the alcohol out , heat and evaporate the alconol ?
  • Tordgaard Patric 2012/11/17 20:17:36
    Tordgaard
Oh, that's right - 'denatured' is the toxic stuff :)
As I said, I believe they pass it through activated charcoal or some type of filter to remove the alcohol but it might be that they heat it. I've never tried to find out how it was done.

I dislike wine, so never. Every few months I'll have a mixed drink though when I go out for dinner somewhere, and approximately that often I may have a drinking night with friends.

More like bi or tri monthly...I'm just not big into drinking. It evens out to about monthly though because I tend to have a glass of wine a day for 2-3 days a month when I do drink it.

For more than 4500 yrs, human diet has largely been based upon fermented products: wine, cheese, beer, bread, yoghurt, etc. Fermented products are easier to digest, inoculate the gut with beneficial bacteria and yeasts, and taste great.
