I've been to some over-the-top birthdays and I have enjoyed them. I've also been to (and thrown some) fantastic birthdays at the park. There is no right answer, but think about your child first!

I've put together some fun posts on my blog about how to throw a party on a budget, let me know what you think.

I don't mind splurging a little bit, but I would save the big spending for Christmas (if I do any at all). I don't want a snotty kid who is overly spoiled either.

Depends on how much money you have. For Bill Gates a couple thousand is a drop in the hat. For me, a couple hundred is too much to spend.

Although one should never spend more than they can actually afford.

I didn't get parties! I had four or five friends over and we played Axis & Allies!

You seem sorry about that... But did you have fun then? If so, I guess what one spends on a child's Bday for them to be happy, doesn't have to be allot does it?
Anyway THE QUESTION IS ABOUT WHAT IS REASONABLE COST FOR "YOUR" CHILD'S BIRTHDAY PARTY.

I'm not sorry. I totally had fun. I'm saying a party should not cost anymore then the cost of food, cake (We made our own cake, lol. Cake is a lie), and decorations. IE: No more than Sixty bucks.

kids birthday parties Id say the choice is between Chucky Cheeses and Funtime Skateland.... You don't have to clean up the mess, they both supply food and the kids are happy. Both occasions kids should bring their parents though.

I went ice skating with my friends and then my mother gave them cake... Not much else required. I never even needed balloons and I still had fun. Now I just beg my parents to book a bar and buy everyone shots ;)

I don't have a problem if someone wants to spend a ton though I don't think it's necessary and would better be saved for their future. This may come from me not celebrating birthdays growing up or now so I don't find them to be important, but I have to imagine the smile on your kids face makes it worth while.

The price of feeding your guests is the only thing you should be spending until your child is old enough to remember it, and then you can have them invite friends and organize games for them which may or may not change the cost... and then, when they're old enough to entertain themselves and their friends, it go right back to the price of food.

    Best memories were where
    The children participated eagerly ..
    helping make the birthday cakes/cupcakes
    helping make the decorations
setting up the patio or backyard ..
and just relaxing and having fun ..
(DO NOT need to spend a fortune to have a wonderful child birthday party .. just get them to help with their own decorations, making cakes, have fun doing it too!)

And best of all .. homemade games .. just little ones with a small reward of bubbles, balloons, or some other little toy ..

There is far too much of this birthday party business. When the kids are babies it is nice to celebrate the 1st year. After that 7 is a nice age for a birthday party. Then 14 or 16 might be appropriate. After that 21 or 25. The idea of having a kids birthday party every year so that they expect it is bad form. Not to mention you now have to buy a lot of junk to take to other kids birthday parties. Make the kids day special is some other way. My kids got little gifts at Christmas time and I saved the birthday for the new bike or special movie treat with their closest friend. Kids who have too many birthday parties are often greedy and care only about gifts and gimme.

If your spending 4 figures your more than outta your mind you need re-evaluate your relationship with your child!!!
We have always made homemade cakes, cupcakes and treats.
Made decorations, had the party in the park, pool, house or yard.

If you ask my kids some of their favorite parties were when they helped decorate their cake and planned their own party.

It depends. If its an important party like a Sweet 16, then a lot of money is okay. But if it's a normal party then it's not.

i gues duplicating the US National debt would be too much... not sure what the minimum maximum would be, i guess that depends on household finances.
Minimum maximum, did that make sense?

Any more than $150 on the party - not including gifts - is too much. Maybe a blow-out for a 16th birthday would be acceptable, or 18th, but otherwise just follow the K.I.S.S. Method: Keep It Simple, Stupid!

I think it is what you can afford to comfortably spend. If on a limited budget, there are many ways to make fantastic memories without spending a lot.
