You!
Add Photos & Videos
Summer is here, but soon enough students will be heading back to school. Of course, it's always a good idea to get as much of that back-to-school shopping done as you can ahead of time, but that's not always how it pans out. There's so much ground to cover, and classes have a tendency to creep up on you. Before you know it, you're sitting in math class without a calculator. Not an ideal situation, but hey. Sometimes that's just how it goes.

Whether you're a current student or the parent of a student, we want to know about your back-to-school shopping habits. Do you always manage to get it out of the way before school starts? Do you have your kids buy their own supplies? Who influences the purchase decisions? Take our 10 question Quick Poll and let us know. We'd love to hear from you!

Well it's nearly $200 for just my uniforms then my ditto fee, which is $20. Plus about $40-$50 for lab/class fees but that depends on the classes im taking, then i still have to get supplies, which is probably about $75, and that just for first semester. I have to get more supplies, less, because i should have some left over, but that tacks on about $20.
And i always run out of paper and pencils so i have to get those regularly.
Wait a moment... Why do my parents have to pay some much if im getting a very poor public education?

I go to private Catholic high school school which means I have to pay for EVERYTHING since the gov't doesn't. Textbooks ($1000), uniforms ($500), supplies ($500), $15,000 for tuition, and more.......plus double all of that because I have a twin sister. School is very expensive.

    Wow.
Even with those prices i wish we had private schools around here so i could get a quality education.

Yeah, I was sick of wasting time at public school where 90% of kids didn't care, were wild and disrespectful, and wasted my time. It's not fair to the people in public school that actually DO want to learn. Anyway, private school may be expensive, but definitely worth it in my opinion. I love my high school (though it's a ton of work! You should see just our required summer work!), which is something I'm sure I wouldn't be saying had I stuck with public school.

Pencils, pens, ruler, calculator... What else do you need? I mean, I guess the graphic calculator that our school requires is pretty expensive, but most of the students bought them really cheap on eBay or discount websites. And they rarely break.

books are very expensive, especially books for languages because they are imported from other countrues. I have to spend at least 200$ every year for my English, Spanish and French books

School supplies usually get to like $60 because of my backpack. I need to get an expensive one because I hold lots of stuff.

School clothes on the other hand cost like $200-$500. If I go for the cheaper clothes they get torn apart, but I always grow out of my clothes so I have to buy new ones. *sigh*

My eldest son starts school next year and it's cost us about $400 in stationery and uniforms so far. No doubt it'll be more once the other kids get older.

Obviously you are headed nowhere with that attitude. One day you will rue the day you said that but you cannot get it back. In order to enjoy school, any school, you have to have a deep appreciation of what it is they are selling. Knowledge is a commodity and you are not buying it. A good education is something that nobody can ever take from you. It gives you poise and teaches you about life. It is not meant to prepare you for a job or a career. Only job training does that but an educated person gets more respect than people who belittle knowledge and are not interested in the world.

Back in high school, under 50 each year. But if including sports equipment, gowns, dances, it can get much higher.

Genuinely we pay under 50 each year, although in year 8, the beginning of high school, we payed well over 500 dollars.
