How is Fred Phelps Biblically wrong?

Daring Blasphemer BN-0 2013/04/20 13:35:47
God DOES hate fags. That is just a fact. Homosexuality is punishable by death according to the Bible. How is he wrong in his interpretation of scripture? How do you KNOW you are correct in YOUR interpretation?

If he is correct, why are you not standing with him?
You!

    An obvious error.

12 The next day as they were leaving Bethany, Jesus was hungry. 13 Seeing in the distance a fig tree in leaf, he went to find out if it had any fruit. When he reached it, he found nothing but leaves, because it was not the season for figs. 14 Then he said to the tree, “May no one ever eat fruit from you again.” And his disciples heard him say it. -Mark 11:12-14

I maintain that it is all myth. That said, Jesus told you exactly how much of the Law (the first five books of the Bible) would pass away. None. He came do away with blood sacrifice, not the OT. Like everything else in the book it can be argued another way. Proof positive that it is not the message of any all knowing being.

Leviticus 18:22 says you're not supposed to tell fabrications to other men like you do with women. Much of the rest of that section of Lev are laws to avoid inbreeding, a law against leaving your wife for her sister, a law forbidding animal husbandry, a law against having sex with your father's mistress, and against teaching your kids there might be other gods... violations of any of those things means you'll be ostracized.

Well, once they ostracized everyone that violated any of those 'laws' they didn't have very many people left, so they started interpreting them a little different.

My point is that Phelps is following the Bible more closely than other Christians who claim he is insane or hateful or not a real Christian.

well then, we can sell our daughters into slavery. times are tough right now. why not use this tried-and-true method of making ends meet? the Bible condones it, so why not?

do you wear clothing made of 2 different kinds of thread? your neighbors are obligated to drag you to the edge of town and stone you to death.
ditto if you grow 2 different kinds of flowers in your flowerbeds.

are you a woman? do you want a divorce? tough. only your husband is allowed to get one.

if you eat pork [or touch any part of a pig] you are unclean and unfit to enter the house of God.

if you sleep with someone you're not married to, whether either one of you is married to someone else or not, there will be consequences:
if you're a woman people will throw stones at your head until you die.
if you're a man, you will pay a sheep or a goat to the husband of the woman if she has one or to her father if she doesn't in order to atone for the services lost to him because he no longer has a wife/daughter.

refusing to live by those laws is sin.
when we have agreed to abide by them all we can talk of enforcing one of those laws on people we have never met.

what do you want to bet the folks in Westboro don't abide by them?

I'm just taking the thumpers' arguments to their logical conclusions. if they want to enforce the laws in the Bible, I suggest they enforce them all. or not at all. cherry picking isn't fair.

The bibles available today have been translated from one language to another 4 or 5 times, so how do you know what they say in English is exactly what was meant when originally written in Aramaic and translated to Hebrew? Or that the English version of the new testament means what it said in Greek when it was assembled almost 2000 years ago?

Take 4 or 5 people each fluent in a couple languages... tell the first one the story in one language, then have that person pass the story on to the next person in a different language, then have that person pass the story on to the next person in 3rd language, then have that person relay the story onto the next person in yet another (4th) language, then have that person tell the story in English.

Heck... just take 5 people and have them pass the story from one to another all in English and compare the original story to what the 5th one says.

The bible was written by men and has it's slants and biases as does all books whether inspired or not. Phelps is a walking piece of excrement. He only preaches hate and discontent. That solves little.

Alrighty....he's bibically correct. And we should follow the bible and stone people to death whenever it command. This includes:

    Blaspheming on the Sabbaath
    Adultry
    Premarital sex (well...for women anyway)
Worshipping other gods (hindus, you're toast)
Disobeying parents (my kids would not have made it to 3 years old)
    Witch and Wizards
Giving your children to Molech (whoever he is)
    Breaking the Sabbath
    Cursing the King.

That last one is for all the obamaites out there.

So if want to interpret the Bible as literally as possible, get ready to be arrested in the first week once you stone the first deserving person you come across.

The original Hebrew Bible actually has no word for homosexual. Leviticus is also a book mostly referring to ritual purity.

The Torah also is a living breathing document and changes with the times. The interpretations nowadays is not what it was 3000 years ago.

I will also never support a horrible hate mongering person like Phelps.

How can the Law change with the times? That would make God fallible as he dictated those laws to Moses. This is a contradiction.
