    I use my pocket knife.

Actually - - I've carefully used Q-Tip brand Q-Tips all my life, without incident.

I get my doctors nurse to do it for me. One of the beauty's of socialized medicine. you can get things done properly without breaking the bank. She does it by simply running tepid water through it until it is all squeaky clean.

Okay, for my TMI post of the day, I'll be glad to help:

I grew up with chronic ear infections, and as a result, my left ear gets excessively waxy. I have to flush it out about every 2-3 months. The best technique is to mix some hydrogen peroxide (the regular drugstore vareity) with warm (not cold or hot) water. The water should be close to your body temperature. Then, use one of those blue baby-nose cleaner bulbs (or whatever they call them) or a plastic dropper to put some of those drops in your ear. Lie down on the opposite ear and let it sit there for a good 15-20 minutes. You'll hear it fizzing and popping in your ear as it loosens the wax (strangely relaxing). After you've let it do some work for those 15-20 minutes, use that same bulb and water/peroxide solution to flush the ear out. You might get a little dizzy because the water in your ear is different from the body temperature, but it won't hurt you. Do this until the globs start to fall into the sink.

Sometimes the wax buildup is so hard, that I pour some of my peroxide drops into the ear and plug it with a cotton ball before I go to sleep at night.

Hope this helps. Sorry for the long post, but I suffer from this and it's maddening.

Thanks. I've done the peroxide bit myself too. I can have perfectly clean ears for ages and, even though I clean them once a week, will suddenly get a deep build up of wax. I peroxide them and pull out globs of wax. I don't know how it gets so packed in there or how it gets to be so much. My ear is only so big but the wax that comes out is incredible. It takes a while to get it all out. I haven't left the peroxide is as long as 20 minutes but keep applying it, clean it out and apply it agian. I will try to leave it in longer next time.

A doctor who cleaned mine one time told me to never use Q-Tips because they impact the wax... the drops are just hydrogen peroxide..

That's what the wax vac commercials say too, that it impacts the wax. I never "dig" with the q-tip, just clean what is close to the outside...what the heck is wax anyway and WHERE does it come from!?!?!
I've tried the peroxide before, it ended up getting stuck inside the canal and I was going crazy for days trying to get it to come out. I never swim, shower, bathe what ever without having plugs in my ears because it seems like once the water gets in, it never wants to come out. The only way I ever get it out is by violently throwing myself down on a mattress repeatedly until it finally dislodges and drains out.

Oh Wow, Biki!!! That has to be a sight to see!!! LMBO
You should try that murine ear wax package... one of my ear drums was busted in 1985, and this still works for me...if the peroxide stays t deep in the canal, hit it with some alcohol...may burn, but it will evaporate the rest.

I tried all of that Keeper. After days of having that water in the ear full feeling I was a bit nuts by then, I was was tearing my hair out and bashing the side of my head with any object to hand...namely a kleenex box.... in frustration I just threw myself down on the bed in an exhausted heap and voila, it finally drained out. Such a relief! The next time it happened I skipped the hysterics and went straight for the throw down and got the water out after a bit. After that...I've never gotten near water again without ear plugs. It's like...the shape of the canal has made it so water gets trapped easier. I never had a problem with it as a child and took swimming lessons and was always around water. Then one day, the water decided to go in and not want to move out. Tried alcohol, tried peroxide, tried a twisted up kleenex to "suck the water out"....nothing worked, but the quick slam down onto a mattress was the ticket.

oh, and it's never a wax build up issue with me, it drains fine, just the water or peroxide, or alcohol that gets stuck in the canal.
Tiger Fan DS just posted a really gross youtube about ear wax being removed...ewwwweeee, just ewwee!!!

I didn't think it was humanly possible to have that much wax built up in your ear!!! Just........ just....... I don't know... how does that even happen?
