They fatten up over the winter months to insulate their bodies more. And, the blasted critters are continuously moving! Have you ever seen a squirrel completely still? If so, it was probably laying in the road.

They stock up on food, fur gets thicker, and they find places where the bitter cold won't affect them too severely..they are very hearty little critters, aren't they, good at surviving!

I think most wild animals fare okay as long as they are not exposed in the open. To hibernate they eat alot more before they do, or they just keep on eating to keep going, seems squirrels aren't deterred by the cold weather at all in my areA Little woodland creatures have the advantagfe over humans..they can deal wirth the cold with their instincts!

They make snug little nests like these, SJ. And they rely on little old ladies (like you and I) to feed them. ;)

My birds started that yesterday - we ran out of seed. They're wonderful at reminding us. Sounds like your little guy is, uh, shy about his wants either!

They build nests (look for large clumps of leaves high up in trees) which they line with some of their own fur as well as leaves and various other material they find throughout the year.
