I always pick up my car keys and say I have to be somewhere and thank them for stopping by. If I just to get a coffee and come back home, I wasn't fibbing to them. I had to have a cup of coffee. lol

    I'm not sure...

But why should you? I mean where's the fun in that?

The best way to deal with anyone in any situation is to be straight out and honest.
I usually just say that it's been fun but I really must go right now because I have other things
    to tend to.
That works just fine for me. Also sometimes it's not what you say but how you say it.
I am always very sweet in saying goodbye to a guest.

If I had to ask someone to leave, I wouldn't care if I was rude! It would be like, "There's the door. Use it!"

Im not proud of this, but i have almost convinced someone that they had mentioned having to do something after coming to my house...By the time they were completely gone the door was shut behind them. They didnt bother trying to come back in either.

Kennedy...I really had to think about this one. It's been a long time that there has been anyone come to visit that I wouldn't hesitate at all to simply say "make yourself at home I have to go out". But to answer your question...just be honest. Tell them...I have things I have to do. It's been nice spending time with you but let's call it a day and make plans to visit another time."

I tell them, "Someone is knocking, can you please get the door?". Then, I push them out.

Just state it calmly and cooly. That's all you can do. It likely won't go over well no matter how you say it. But later on the person can at least say, "at least he/she was decent about it."

I leave, or I give those people the 'Evil Eye'. Evil eye
That would sure scare them away.

I usually say with some humor, "Git. I have to get busy." It's the truth and the humor takes the edge off.

The one time I've had to kick someone out of my home, I didn't worry about being rude.

I simply pointed toward the door and yelled, "Get your ass OUT OF MY HOUSE!"

Of course they never came back and weren't friends with me after that.
