How come that men are almost 5 times more likely than women to kill themselves?

I feel sorry for men due to the mixed messages society gives, there is the responsibility of being an alpha male and being successful whilst being feminine understanding which isn't a traditionally masculine gender role. Men are taught women are independent whilst being expect to always be chivalrous and traditional. The gender roles are contradictory. I feel sorry for them.

Its a lifestyle matter, individual to each person, but its showing a trend in America, maybe its just because women are strong than men...

There are more retarded men than women

That's mildly offensive, but it happens to be true. At the same time, there are far more male geniuses than female ones. According to statistics, men tend to be either extremely intelligent or extremely dumb, whereas women are more likely to have an average IQ.

However, I don't think that answers the question. Men commit suicide when they feel that they lack a purpose in life. We are programmed to be providers. Being in a relationship lowers our testosterone level, helps to cope with stress and improves our general well-being. Without a family to provide for, we are prone to depression and other health problems, and older single men who are starved of social interaction see no reason to live anymore at some point.

Women are better at maintaining a social network without having to rely on a marriage / relationship. Women are also more likely to find a partner, seeing that modern day Western women engage in serial monogamy with long breaks between relationships, which leads to a situation where relatively few men manage to hook up with the majority of women while many other man spend lonely, empty lives.
And then there is the ongoing steretyping and demonizing of men as oppressors and rapists and whatnot. Boys are taught from a young age to be ashamed for their gender and their natural urges, which certainly contributes to the problem.

Because women have it harder. Didn't you see that poll? Men are offing themselves 500% more because our lives are so easy and great!

Our sexual organs are on the outside. They act as a second brain that always gets us into trouble.

Men are doers, they don't spend time dwelling on words whereas women are doers as well but they spend time communicating with others about their emotions for themselves and for their relationships in life.
