I've never understood the "one night stand" thing with total strangers. I have to know and trust someone before I let them touch me like that.

It's a basic human need, and it's enormously enjoyable!

Need? I don't see how, aside from reproduction. Most people don't have sex to reproduce most of the time anyway. Sex isn't vital. I know it has health benefits but I don't see it as a need; something you will literally die without. I also don't see how many people will be with anyone, say people they don't know or who they find hideous...haha I don't care how good it supposedly feels. BTW I am not criticizing you.

Yeah, I do genuinely think there's a basic human need to have sex; that's why, if I see a girl in a short skirt, I get excited! It's not because I want to go out with her; I just find her sexually attractive, and seeing her does something to my body.
I'm not saying I'd die without sex, but after food and water, it's probably the thing I crave most!

everyone has different expectations of sex. Some find it to be very personal and only to be shared with others who they are connected with, and some are not emotionally attached to the action

It all depends on the person, their history and personal circumstances in life. Some people have done more in life or that have had more done to them and it makes it feel good to have sex with many. Others feel that it is wrong and need to know the other person well. So yes, it is possible for some to have sex with just about anyone.

Indeed. It amazes me how far people will go to promote and protect intellectual dishonesty. Here's a short snippet I wrote on it:

Intellectual Dishonesty, or "ignorance" is a learned behavior and a shortcut for actual principle, conviction and honest philosophy. We live in a society that has come to prefer bendable philosophies and principles. This empowers standards of unaccountability. For example: "Don't Judge me/people" has become the champion phrase of this philosophy. Whereas I would hope people would look at life and say "You only live once. I will live with honor, conviction and integrity!" They are actually saying "You only live once. Let's get away with as much as we can. Who cares about the supposed consequences or who gets hurt along the way!"

We live in an inherently dishonest, hedonistic, greedy, vanity driven, self serving society. Men of principle and integrity are few and far between and are seemingly the new outcasts. "Lo! My Eager Eyes Will Behold The TRUTH." -- Tanner Merritt

Terrific points. Here's another one, "it's none of your business what other people do", when pretty much everything someone does will most likely effect someone else, somehow, in the most unexpected and unintended of ways. Anything goes because what people want is greater than what is healthy and morally correct. Ha ha I made society sound like a bunch of children with that last sentence. I am not trying to put down all who are not religious, but a lot of them have eliminated the main determining factor of what really IS right and try to deem morality as something that is subjective. They come up with seemingly logical justifications for their actions, when in reality they do not change the fact that something is wrong.

Something else I don't understand is, why people believe in certain other intangible unseen things. Take for example, fear. We cannot see it, it isn't a tangible element but we can feel it presence. We see the effects it has. I compare this to spirituality (God).

    Right on.

Hmm. I can lend you this idea in a quote by C.S, Lewis: "You don't HAVE a SOUL. You ARE a SOUL. You HAVE a body."

Sit and make a list of ALL the things we cannot see, but we KNOW are in fact there. It's awesome! And now I'll quote Dustin Kensrue of Thrice from the song 'Treading Paper': "If anything means anything, there MUST be something left for us to be. A song that we were MADE to sing. There must be, SO MUCH more that we can't see...."

I believe that when you master yourself and your ego and you can truly open your mind and spirit, God is there waiting to be heard.

I'll close by quoting Vitor Belfort: "There are two ways: A life of Principle, or a life of Preference."

Sex always in your mind; you need imagination, emotional and lots of enthusiasm, from that point the imagination transformed human beings deferent from one to another. Imagination just like fantasy, and that’s why some many would stick to the same woman, others the more they have the more like, to see the reaction from one woman to another. Also goes for gay people, which to me just any foolish away from Nature.

Some people discriminate against who they sleep with. I mean why must people get sooo many people instead of someone they love? Things only get boring because of lack of creativity, trying and immaturity.

You are assuming a great many things.

There is nothing to prevent a promiscuous person from being discriminating. Furthermore, promiscuous people might have strong feelings of love and affection toward all of the people with whom they are intimate. Finally, promiscuity does not necessarily stem from boredom. One could be promiscuous simply because they enjoy with sex with many partners.

"There is nothing to prevent a promiscuous person from being discriminating"

There is a woman on here this thread who likes to sleep around and she said so herself she discriminates against "ugly guys". She says she doesn't just do anyone.

"Furthermore, promiscuous people might have strong feelings of love and affection toward all of the people with whom they are intimate"

Love? Doubt it. Their attention and desire is too divided in order for them to actually give love. All they can offer is crotch...whoppie.

I think you may be projecting. It might be difficult or impossible for you to feel love and affection for more than one person at a time. That does not mean that others can feel love and affection toward more than one person at a time.

Love is about giving your all. How can you give someone all of your cookie (metaphorically speaking) if you have to ration it into pieces and share it with many others? Many confuse lust/infatuation/dopamine with love.

I think we have different definitions of love. I don't think love is about giving all of yourself to one person. Right now, I am sharing some of myself with you, but that does not prevent me from loving my wife.
  • XRenX Donald ... 2012/08/09 15:12:29

you are sharing your beliefs with me. I know that is not love. It is devoting your LIFE to that person that makes it love, not a conversation like we are having. With that logic you "give yourself" to people you dislike even, because you have conversations with them as well and you obviously don't love them.
  • Donald ... XRenX 2012/08/10 11:34:49
    Donald Eric Kesler
You do make an investment of yourself with people you don't like when you opt to engage them in conversation. To be certain, it is not much of an investment, but it is an investment nevertheless.

I don't think anyone devotes their whole life to another individual. Friends, family and co-workers fulfill needs both physical and emotional that can't be met by one person.

Ultimately, you and I have two different world views. Nothing is wrong with your paradigm. It is just not one that I embrace.

I'll let you have the last word on this exchange.

Sex is no longer a sacred act. It's actually considered a rite-of-passage to some teens. They think that once they lose their virginity, they won't be considered 'kids' anymore. To others, it's a contest. They'll compete with friends to see how many girls or guys they can get in bed. Others are addicted to sex, feeling the need to sleep with someone. For some people, sex is even their job.

Exactly! Being a teenager is a very difficult stage in many peoples lives. People begin to discover themselves, making some mistakes along the way. Sex is just another thing to explore to some, but to others, having sex helps them with their low self-images of themselves.

Heterosexual sexual males and females are not so promiscuous these days as they were in the 70s and early 80s because of AIDS, lesbians usually are not promiscuous at all, but homosexual males are, and this comes from a friend I know for many years that is a gay male. Lesbians or bisexual females like a relationship usually, in my experience in dating bisexual females. Lesbians also have more stable relationships then male homosexuals. I was a bartender in Manhattan for a long time so you get to know these things after a while.
