    They are a tool used to enhance visually what is being expressed verbally. They don't neccesarily state facts because they are also used to visualize statistics which one knows can be biased and/ or imperfect.

    I think infographics are really useful as the brain works really fast sometimes and you can visually grasp a concept really quickly by looking at a graph, whereas reading information can be downright boring at times.

    They are effective only when there is a pre existing bias towards comprehension. Like with those London subway maps, if you have some idea of how the city is laid out the map makes sense otherwise it's nothing but concentric circles. Designers should pay attention to the fine line between an info graphic &, as Vincent Flanders always calls it, "mystery meat" navigation.
