Pole Tax of a different kind went into effect in Houston, Texas. The city levied a $5 per visitor tax on strip clubs to fund the cost of processing evidence collected by rape kits. In essence, the city will charge strip club patrons to pay for the crimes of rapists.
Does this sound fair to you? Should the city associate strip club patrons with rapists? Why not alcohol or knife sales?

The government can tax a business activity and use the funds for whatever they like-- in this case, they're taxing a sex industry to fund the investigation of sex crimes, which does make sense.
But strip clubs aren't responsible for sex crimes (sex crimes can and often do occur at strip clubs, but that's besides the point, given rape can happen anywhere and to anyone.)
In short, I think it's a fair move for the city-- it's allowed, legal, and goes to a good cause. The money for rape investigations has to come from SOMEWHERE, and I don't see how jacking up admission price to strip clubs is going to make people say, "Oooh, they're charging extra to fund rape investigations, strip clubs must commit an awful lot of rapes!"
it is what it is ..
a TAX on a business activity ..
How ignorant.
