Bibles have been booted from The Damson Dene Hotel... and E L James’ BDSM erotica novel "Fifty Shades of Grey" has taken its place in every room within the English inn.

Upon request, the front desk of the hotel will provide bibles. TheFrisky goes on to write "...the replacement has caused much controversy, with people in the United States sending “quite a few e-mails quoting the scripture to [the hotel] and suggesting that it would be a good thing to put the Bible back.”

THEFRISKY.COM reports:
Christian Grey is damn near God-like — at least according to guests’ bedside tables in The Damson Dene Hotel.’

I mean, think about it - both the Bible and 50 Shades are popular works of fiction. 50 Shades just happens to be a bit more realistic.

Disgusted.....If they are going to put erotica in a room ..make it good French erotica.... something by Anais Nin, ...not smutty chick lit. like' 4 shades' ... Or else put the Bible back and leave it open at the Song of Solomon

Haha! Good one! And I suspect there will be a higher cost in keeping the stock looking new when compared to the bibles! Not to mention later checkout times? :)

I wonder if 'certain' books in brail... get some pages more worn down than others .. in the way that books have certain pages more thumbed? only wondering?

A great idea, even if I thought the book bordered on amateurish drivel. :)

At least it doesn't contain all the massacre, incest, hatred, superstition and quackery found in the bible.

I will give it ONE thing, though! Comparing both as a form of literary hotel room forplay, the sex would undoubtedly be more fun for (or with) the 50 Shades readers! :)

let them mix it up a bit, i mean not everyone reads the bible, but i say have a request at desk for if the do put a book there let them deside 50 or bible. freakly i'd love to go to a hotel and have a copy of 50 Shades next to me to read so i dont have to pack one myself i have room for other things but i am really a care free person and just go with it i think its interesting and it time fro a bit of change in these places

I find it to be a good thing. Why not provide other religious scripture for those who aren't Christian? Why only the bible and not copies of other religious documents?

Whether or not you believe in the Bible, at least it can be considered literature. 50 Shades of Gray is crap, no matter how you look at it.

Yes, and I would have less problem with them replacing the Bible with Harry Potter. At least it's well written.

You should. It's well written, even the first. Rowling's books got better with each one, as she sharpened and improved her writing skills. If anything, the Twilight books got worse. I'm a librarian, so reading is an occupational hazard. I forced myself to read all 4 Twilight books, but believe me, by the fourth, I was really forcing myself!

LOL! I'm not sure I can even stand to watch it. I already wanted to shake the two imaginary vampires so hard by the end of the 4th book that their fangs would have rattled loose.

No. Thankfully, the target audience is NOT the audience I have to consider, so I've passed. I was really curious about them, but a couple of friends told me I'd hate 'em, so I decided to not get them at all.

I confess I don't know much about the SM lifestyle, but from what I've read from those who do, these books do not give even close to a view of what it is. What crap!

The last time I saw something like that, if was either written by someone extremely young, or written in the 1920's or something.
