H&M Launches Eco-Friendly Collection: Great Way to Go Green?

It's Earth Week this week (Earth Day is on Sunday), and if you're like us, you're always looking for new ways to go green. Well, H & M is here to help. Last week, the cheapie (but trendy) chain introduced its first evening wear line, and it just so happens to be made out of sustainable materials.

The collection's eco-friendly materials include organic cotton, hemp and recycled polyester. In fact, the chain already has an eco-friendly line as part of its "Conscious Initiative," but this more glamorous effort is attracting the attention of celebs like Amanda Seyfried, Viola Davis and Michelle Williams, who have all worn pieces from the collection, according to Fashionista.

Prices range from $19.99 for a top to $299 for a floor-length gown (right in time for wedding and prom season). Cocktails dresses cost about $60. And just in case you needed another excuse to stop by H & M on your next trip to the mall, the chain recently announced that they are the No. 1 user of organic cotton in the world. They've also donated 2.3 million garments to charitable causes.

The dress looks bad, that contradicts the primary function of the dress.

People are going to shop at H&M; either way. If the products are environmentally friendly why would anyone complain? I wish all stores were green.

Plus if they sell loads, that will encourage them and other clothes companies to make and sell more eco friendly(er) clothes/accessories, which in my view can only be a good thing - though I sincerely hope that fairtrade is also on the list of things they're doing. I think it's good to encourage and give incentive for large companies (as well as small ones) to be eco friendly, support fairtrade, be involved with and support charity funding etc.

Though having said that, I don't like H&M clothes myself, and will continue to get mine second hand (and usually modify them), and to DIY the rest - that way I get more/complete control over what fabric is used, what the design is, the quality of the garment, where the materials are from etc., not to mention DIY or modifying your own clothes means that you know they'll always be unique, and that you're not puting money into the pockets of various bastard corporations who rely on modern day slavery and pollution and the like to get their money :)

aside from the lunacy of the "green hoax" a vendor who adopts a "green agenda" is doing so for a reason, they are veying for the sheeple to buy their crap, because they are having problems selling out of it's normal product line.

"Going green" will give way to state-mandated observance of hindu / pagan / pantheistic / "creation-worship" etc where every single other living thing (except for humans) has rights that trump the rights of humans...society as a whole will de-value human life so much (the process has already started with gay "marriage" and abortions that serve to 1. prevent human births and 2. sanction the destruction of conceived babies), that self-elected castration will be deemed heroic and suicide will be considered saintly. The devil is in the details and he's been hard at work on this one for a long time!

Grace to you, Glory to God!

I think they mean green in the actual way it's produced and the fact it has less of an impact when doing it the green way, which might cost more because it's not the fast cheap way it's usually done. I'm not one to buy into being green, I don't really care, but I know the difference. Not all cotton is grown organically, so it's not all green. I'm talking pesticides, machine fumes, factory emissions. That's the difference I believe.

A lot if these new sexy dresses are coming to market through a reality TV Show. It is true...the way to crested jobs...is to create a want...that in turn creates a market. Chevrolet and Ford and Chrysler understood this after the last world war. They pushed the idea that you are not socially with it...if you are not in a new car. This goes doubly so when the unspoken dress code (fashion) is changed. That short dress In the pic is both sexy and beautiful, and very marketable.
