Why should Hindu's be upset we aren't practicing yoga, they should worry about their own well being.

Maybe that is the problem. At one time, we actually did care. Then again, that was back when Americans possessed dignity and self respect. Now we don't care what anyone thinks of us....Just a thought....

PS. SodaHead, is not the majority, K? To say you think, and the word majority in the same sentence, is narcissistic and damn assuming. Take care, who you assume to speak for...

I can see why they'd be upset, especially since a great part of it is philosophy and a religion.

We had a yoga unit in PE when I was in high school and I actually really enjoyed it. However, being college means that there are more important things that I need to spend my money on and considering I already pay for use of the gym there's no reason to pay extra for yoga.

LOL! Hindus upset. I don't think so.
I know a lot of Hindus and none of them practice Yoga.
There's over 800 million Hindus in India.
Out of 800 million Hindus there must be at least ten or twelve that
would love to see the west embrace Yoga.

All sprituallity is the same thing. Though the ingredients might change, the path is still the same. By what ever path you choose, you are still on a spritual journey....Just a thought...

    All religions are exclusive.
  • sundance Boris B... 2012/04/17 05:02:12
    sundance
Actually, that is almost true. Virtually every religion on the dust ball is at least a bit exclusive. However, there are always exceptions to the rule (good thing eh?). Let us try on the Sikh for instance. Here is an excerpt from their religious tome. "Sikhs are expected to embody the qualities of a "Sant-Sipahie"—a saint-soldier. One must have control over one's internal vices and be able to be constantly immersed in virtues clarified in the Guru Granth Sahib. A Sikh must also have the courage to defend the rights of all who are wrongfully oppressed or persecuted irrespective of religion, colour, caste or creed." Sounds pretty inclusive to me....just a thought..

PS. They are raised that willingly letting anyone ( yes, that means you), knowingly go hungry, is an egregious act, and absolutely inexcusable.....Food for thought...

Exclusivity does not mean that a religion is nice in some way. Exclusivity means that the religion claims that it is the Only way to God. -- What I am telling you is that Every religion claims that it is the only way to God (to spritual success).

OK, didn't read the post, now did you? Did I say that they pass out candy, and compliment your suit? I am well aware of what the definition of exclusivity is. My point is that the Sikhs actually have respect for anyone seeking spiritual enlightenment, regardless of religion. To them, the path is more important than the way you found it. So, what I am telling you, is that I actually know what your talking about. better yet, I know what I am talking about...Just a thought...

Take a look at the language of your previous entry. It says that Sikhs 'are expected to', 'must have control' and 'must be constantly immersed'. Is that because it does not matter? What does it mean to their religious expectations? -- They have exclusive religious belief.
  • sundance Boris B... 2012/04/17 13:44:20 (edited)

Your expected to remain dressed while in public, right? You must also have control over your urges when surrounded by people, right? See, the same kind of language, right? And if you are going to waste my time with rhetorical response, then by all means, find a new hobby. I have little time for discussion with people who dissect a statement, and then read its contents out of context. Now, if your going to read basic responsibilities as "exclusive", which is completely out of context, then you would be right, in definition. However, for the context of your initial comment, you would be in error. My post clearly states that they make no distinction, based on your race, station in life or religion. Now that doesn't sound to very "exclusive" to me. Your initial qualifying statement reads,
"Exclusivity does not mean that a religion is nice in some way. Exclusivity means that the religion claims that it is the Only way to God. -- What I am telling you is that Every religion claims that it is the only way to God (to spiritual success)".
My comment states that you are, at least in this context, wrong. Sikhs feel that one must be actively seeking spiritual enlightenment to obtain said. That is not exclusivity. That is logic. To call it exclusivity, is to say that all that hunger, are seeking Pizza...Just a thought....
  • Boris B... sundance 2012/04/17 22:07:44
    Boris Badinov
"One must be actively seeking spritual enlightenment to obtain spiritual enlightenment." --- There is that same kind of 'must be' requirement again. (As in my way or the highway.) That is exclusivity.

Then every time I fix a car, or eat a burrito, I must be exercising my desire to be exclusive. What you have oversimplified ( and trust me, your not alone), is the idea, justifying the means, instead of the way. By your logic, every purposeful thing engineered by man is (by your definition) exclusive. That is to say that, should I be hungry, then I "must" seek food. This, according to your logic is true. Unfortunately, that line of reasoning is flawed. We have not set the parameters on hunger, now have we?..
    To continue;
By Merriam Webster's definition, your logic is flawed. Now if we were discussing religion according to the Christian faith, or Catholicism, then your logic would be spot on. However, the Sikh's core belief ( amongst others), does not segregate according to path taken. Rather, they celebrate the fact that you decided to follow the path to begin with. Sounds very inclusive my friend...just a thought....

PS. Is this a problem with religion in general? Well, were we discussing religion, then I would at least give you that. However, we are discussing enlightenment, and not religion. This is not to say that religion cannot be enlightening. Enlightenment can be obtained in a library, temple or behind the handle bars of a bike...I would further that, Buddha found his enlightenment, sitting in front of a wall....Peace

I don't practice Yogi the Bear, yogurt or anything else starting with a Yo. I could care less what a Hindu group wants. If they have a problem call 1-800-GAS (give a S**t)
I do practice flatulence on a daily basis, and I am quite good at it

Read the article that this post is about.
It's not as simple as it seems.
Some are upset because Yoga was banned by several churches because it is "UN christian". Which is a big load of crap. I think they are more offended over stupidity than anything else.
  • Kat Vitalani 2012/04/16 14:50:58

Yoga is based in Hinduism which isn't Christian. Most people in this country aren't Hindu's and aren't going to convert. Churches have a right to control what goes on in their churches, if they feel it is un christian they don't have to allow it. There may have been a more radical group that was causing problems, you don't know why they came to that decision and neither do I.
If the Hindus are offended by stupidity they better go crawl under a rock somewhere because there are people that think they are stupid, you are stupid and I am stupid, it's all based on opinions so that's really not somewhere we should go, highly subjective.
