High speed police chases kill hundreds of people every year. Should High speed police chases be banned?

People do things where the police have to chase and the speeds do get high. To let these people go their merry ways is too dangerous for the general population even though the argument is given we can get them later. A man after shooting someone will shoot anyone he feels is a challenge to him including innocents.

... but they should be reasonably limited. Allowing criminals (possibly serial killers) to speed away makes little sense. Perhaps more drones and satellites would help.

We still need to catch criminals. We can't just let them get away, and we can't tell them they can't run....because they are going to anyways. No, we don't need anymore BS bans.

Instead, if someone runs from the Law then they should get an extra 25-years-to-Life added on their Original Sentence. The only reason that criminals try to get away in high-speed-chases is because they know that as a Naton, we really suck when it comes to Enforcing The Law. If we only just Enforced our Laws then we wouldn't have any crime.

With the technologies available today, there is no reason for a High Speed chase.

We can pretty much find anyone we put our minds too... Get you now.. or get you later.. we will still get you!

High Speed chases are just an excuse for the police to burn off some macho testosterone energy. ((I'm a cop, so it is OK for me to drive 166mph down a highway, because- well - that's my job, and because I want too!))

No.. just shoot the car with a "find me" tag. and get them later. Or follow them with a Helo... or... if a late model GM.. just follow them with OnStar. or a Ford with Sync.

A few more years, and all cars will have kill buttons that the police can use to kill your car.

Stop letting people drink because that causes accidents, Stop putting the beds on frames because if you roll out of bed you might fall and hurt yourself. There was a cartoon I saw years ago where some guy wanted to sue the farmers because if they didnt grow the barley he would not have been able to have it made into booze. Yup... all cop cars could be equipped with guided Misiles... instead of chasing them.. they just blow them up at the first safe opportunity.

I have never understood them. Nine times out of ten they know who the guy is and they know exactly where he'll go if left alone. Why not just be waiting for him when he gets there? He'll be a lot less stressed, and less people are likely to be hurt or killed. And for when they DON'T know they have planes and choppers, they can tail him without endangering everybody!

Agreed, but what about traffic? He could even have his wife and kids in there with him. What if he freaks and pops them? It does happen. Happens all the time.

No, if you read the whole answer you would know what I personally would suggest.

If they didn't have a destination in mind they wouldn't get in a car and try to get there. My answer assumes that the police... being the POLICE after all... would know their suspect enough to know where that destination would be and meet him there, thus saving the dangerous chase which serves only to upset an already unstable individual. Those times when they actually get the guy? Sheer luck. Half the time is either a huge crash or he kills himself/hostages/both. Do a little police work and save a lot of trouble. That's all I'm saying.

That's when you call out a plane or a helicopter and trail him from a safe distance where they MAY not even notice. There is literally no need at all for the road chase AND it causes un-needed hazards.
