Rare baby white buffalo killed for its skin

A one-year-old, non-albino white buffalo, said to occur only once in 10 million births, has been killed and skinned by poachers in Hunt County, Texas. The animal, named Lightning Medicine Cloud, was believed to be sacred by the local Lakota Native American community, and the crime is being investigated with help from the Department of Homeland Security and the National Indian Council. The rare buffalo's shaken owner, who was out of town when the crime occurred, describe the animal as "the hope of all nations." In what may have been a related incident, the calf's mother was also found dead.

for these White Buffalo are Sacred indeed ..
A powerful symbol of the Spirits ..
(I am reminded of the reverence that the Montana State Museum displayed)
"Big Medicine" .. a White Buffalo that lived a long life indeed
(1933-1959 was his recorded lifetime)

I am sorry for your loss, I saw red when I read what you wrote, I don;t like hunting for sport or trophy hunting. And to kill a sacred animal to your people is really makes me mad!

You are so very welcome, first I don't think the Indians every got a fair deal. Second, killing a Sacred animal is so wrong for so many reasons. One thing I wish we could learn more about is their respect for the land.

even as crazy as Ted is, he's a true conservationist with respect to land and wild life. he'd never kill an endangered species and totally opposes relocation of herds, as that does spread disease.

I would not doubt that if the person who did this is ever caught His scalp will be the penality. The White Buffalo is considered to be THE MOST sacred of all the animal spirits. To Kill the White Buffalo is not just a crime it is the killing of a "god" spirit.
