Having Respect for someone and Treating someone with REspect are two different things. Do you agree or disagree?

johne37179 2013/01/21 18:42:44agree+7This works at all levels -- During the cold war each side respected the potential of the other side, but did not always treat each other with respect.

Once someone EARNS my respect, then I respect them as a person.
When people say "treat someone with respect" what they really mean is good manners and politeness, I think the two have gotten blurred.
Anyway: sometimes the latter is merely a matter of pragmatism.
Many other sites at least allow you to correct it or have a place to report it happening~
You cannot treat someone with respect without having some level of respect for them and you cannot have respect for someone without also treating them with respect at least part of the time. Even with friends that you can tease and make disrepectful comments to without lowering the level of respect you have for each other, there is a level of respect built into the friendship.
That said, you can treat a total stranger with respect, but you can only have respect for someone you know enough about to feel respect for them and their behavior.
But I treat my girlfriend with respect!
we can have respect for teachers but not respect a certain teacher.
#2 Why do you not respect your teachers?
#3 Why do you think they want you to be THEIR bitch?
Abusive people won't get my fake or real respect.
Like the late great Rodney Dangerfield, however, I get neither! LOL !
