I'm sure I could have at one point in my life, but me, I would not. Will not say I may not have to someday. Hope to goodness not. So far, I haven't, but would've asked for help from someone else with the understanding that I would repay. I have borrowed money before, and paid back.

Thankfully, no. Although I did collect unemployment benefits for a couple of months a couple of years ago. Is that considered a social service?

I don't know, but you more than likely paid into this. And, it doesn't sound like you took advantage. I did too for about 6mos back in 1976 when I lost my job. But, I did make a move to a booming Houston to find work.

I did pay into the fund. For over 25 years before I needed unemployment benefits. I had no intention of taking advantage of it. I hated it...couldn't get off of it fast enough.

Not from government programs but my parents have accepted food donations during rough times from private agencies.

Do food stamps count? I needed and used them for 3 months one time. It was a blessing to have them and a blessing to not need them again.

The specific branch of the government called Social Services? No.

Socialized services available via the government? Yes.

SSA and VA Disability Pension for me, along with socialized medical care via VA medical programs.
