I willingly took an unpaid internship though. It's hard getting by but I love working for the cause since it's important to me.

With the higher cost of living, higher taxes--higher EVERYTHING--there's little to no room for any extras as before.

I do not work outside the home and my husband has been an engineer for the same Fortune 500 company for almost 40 years. We are very fortunate. We do however have two friends whose husbands have lost their jobs. Both were in the business field and with their companies for almost 30 years. Due to downsizing they were let go. One did find another lower paying job and after 21/2 years the other friend is still looking. It's sickening to say the least. Thanks Mr. Prez for not caring.

I've received a raise every year for the last ten years at my job and also a yearly incentive award. I've been very lucky.

I have had to before but this last time I just decided that I would retire rather than take a 50% of what I was being paid before.

I'm a teacher and my wages have been frozen for two years. On top of that my husband has been without a job for over two years. I do not look fondly on this period in history.

It was, but it was a "resume builder" supposedly. Maybe one of these days I will actually get to take the bad guys to jail like a real criminal justice practitioner.

Being retired, we are getting pretty much exactly the same income as 5 years ago.

Problem being that the same money is not worth as much in this always increasing cost society. Food bill, car insurance, gasoline, property taxes all higher, so we sure don't live as well.

I forgot to mention that we had $40.000 in a savings account that had to be used for survival so is no longer existant. Now less than $2000 and shrinking in savings. And our retirement home, a Manufactured home, was $40,000 in 2006, and now is worth an estimated $15,000.
