I did it in spurts, took me several years but not much was online then. I think now most of it can be done from the comfort of your home if you have some basic information such as names of ancestors.

I don't know about ancestry.com, but, that is why I decided to ask around, I think it would be fun!

If your willing to work on it you can do it for free . So much of it is on the internet and more is added every day. This is an earlier post that can get you started.

We've traced our ancestors back through two continents and 100+ years. We found clusters of relatives we were not aware of until now. Exciting!

Thanks, I'll give it a try. I tried it on ancestry.com and once you get to a certain point, you have to join.

I tried ancestry.com and began combining a lot of what were supposed to be relatives . They were incomplete , and sometimes merely wishful thinking.

There is a lot of detective work , There a many more sites that operate for free.
West Virginia has birth , death , marriage records online
Many other states also make records available.

The Genealogy program will fill all your needs and print custom reports.
The paid version will expand on that much further and even allow you to print a book.

To be perfectly honest, I'm not really all that interested and I don't have a lot of patience for the research. My niece started to look into it and she may be able to use your suggestions.
