Signing up for insurance can be a pain the neck, but without it you could end up footing a bill you can't afford. Health insurance has taken a prominent spot in politics lately as the government attempts to get basic coverage for more people, but good coverage will never be completely free, and selecting a plan that's understandable and affordable can still be a chore. Let us know your thoughts on insurance with this six-question Quick Poll. We'd love to hear from you!

The claim was less expensive than the rate increase.

Yes, because it was not covered by insurance

Because it was my fault. I owed the nice folks who didn't do anything but not be seen by me when I turned. This whole idea that we need "insurance" and then to force me to buy it from a bunch of charlatans is insane and a permission slip to be irresponsible for most... plus insurance is a losing game statistically and I don't like losing, especially to wealthy thieving bastard gangs.

What does that have to do with auto-accidents?

I think the question means paying for property damage, not paying for the injury.

Yes, especially if the total cost is less than the deductable, and if there are no injuries. The insurance company is just going to raise your rates if you involve them.

Once, because I didn't want my car insurance to go up. The other time was weird. A drunk unlicensed uninsured person hit my house. About 60K in damage. My homeowners covered any amount over what wasn't paid by the auto insurance. Since he wasn't insured, there was no auto insurance, so I had to pay the whole thing myself. LOL. when I talked to the guy's boss he said..."when he hit a house last time..." I have to admit my brain shut off completely right about then. "What do you mean? The last time he hit a house? He's done this before?" the boss said. "yes, twice that I know of..." Scary.

But, I was in my friend's car when she ran a red light and hit two cars. I fudged up my back pretty bad but she didn't have full coverage and our families are best friends as well so I just paid for the chiropractor visits myself (or at least my parents did) and I was better after about 4 adjustments.

One time was when my teenaged son sideswiped a Lexus, and I didn't want years of paying higher premiums as he got a newer car at graduation, and the other just occurred when an act of vandalism (chocolate milkshake thrown on a car my daughter had parked at college) that ruined the paint, and when buffing out didn't help, we progressed to an $1,895 partial paint job... but got there in $300-400 increments.
