My wife does a very good job of doing that, every time I look at her.

...but I've tried. Even though I'm a meditator, I seem incapable of hypnosis.

No, not me, But, if you are really interested, you can buy a book on Amazon.com, It is titled "Self hypnosis in 2 days, It is a paperback, I read it 20+ yrs. ago, I thought it was out of print, You would need to devote 2 days to being a hermit. I didn't check the price, biut, when I bought the book, it was around $2.00

I'm not sure what you mean. I can meditate so deeply my vital signs depress way down, but I am aware and can rouse instantly (especially if someone says cardiac syringe or defibrillator), so it isn't hypnotism. Most things you think of as hypnotism I do consciously, or was trained to do with biofeedback. I think everyone is or find it by experimenting. I don't think you can hypnotize yourself.

Yea,exactly, you got it, IMHO, deep meditation, would be a good description of self-hypnosis

Many times while driving on long trips. Those shiny doors on the back of some semi trailers are not meant to be followed too closely.

I use relaxation techniques, from a book I once read on self hypnosis, especially if I'm having difficulty sleeping. Not difficult and it works for me.

And it was a terrible mistake. It is advised against. I did it to see my past life. Apparently I was some warlord in South Asia who was killed in battle with an arrow to the head. After that I jolted up and haven't done it since.

Sorry, that' the 1st time, I've heard anything like that, but, that sounds more like an out-of-body experience! I know several people who do it for relaxation, but, what happened to you, is indeed scary!

I was in an EM club during my hitch at Point Loma. A friend of mine was picked from the audience for a group sitting. After the other subjects were excused, Donnie was still remaining and had become the star of the show.

Most of what happened was humorous, but when Donnie was told to remain stiff as a board, me and another guy at our table were asked to bridge two chairs with Donnie's body. The only portions of Donny to touch the chairs were his heels and the ball of the back of his head. That's it! Then the Maestro placed a small step ladder near Donnie and had this chunky Go-Go dancer stand on his stomach! The EM club just roared.

It was definitely scary. And I was far from relaxed. I've been wanting to try again but I'm scared to. And if I do it with someone else they'll probably just make me laugh :/

Yes! That does sound like an OBE. I have them, involuntarily, often. Sometimes it's scary, sometimes not. The part that gets me is that I experience sleep paralysis for a few minutes afterwards.

And if you did, how would you "wake" yourself up if you're hypnotized????
