Have you ever held back from telling the truth as you see it, because of a possible backlash?

Sometimes it's just not worth it.

Many times. In real life, on SH and other boards. The two worst forums I ever went on was one about dogs and the other was a christian board. Both were evil. I learned a lot of lessons.

Definitely, sometimes it's better to let people think they're right- life is easier this way.

Of course, that's called being polite. I don't make up lies, but there are some truths that certain people just don't need to hear, and sometimes it really is better to keep one's mouth shut. Sometimes we need to believe sweet lies or rose-tinted truths for love and peace and general happiness to exist... If everyone just went around telling everyone bluntly, exactly what they thought of them, we would all have much lower self esteem and there would be more hatred and anger and bitterness between people. Sometimes you have to think of the 'greater good' rather than just your own personal urges to blurt out every thought that comes in your head regardless of whether it will hurt others or not.. People say they don't like being lied to, but actually we lie to eachother everyday "no, you don't look fat" "yes, you are doing a good job" "That's ok, don't worry about it"... Lying to a degree is what makes the world go round. That's what I think. But of course, everything in balance and only when necessary..

Anyone who's worked for others and hasn't had to do this is very, very lucky.

I am well known for speaking my mind. I have been known to be brutally honest, although I have been trying hard to tame my tongue lately. Now in place of a comment like "wash your nasty ass will you" I may say something like "soap and water works wonders when used daily".

I don't hold back because of backlash, but there ARE times that I walk away from something because there truly is no point in discussing it.

Almost daily and I'm outspoken.

I have. There are times if not asked I won't say. But if asked directly then I do tell the truth!

I have in the past, but as I got older I became more open with my feelings. I don't mind the backlash now.

I could tell you some stories...but actually I can't tell them...because of the backlash.

especially on here because this site seems to be crawling with hateful folks, just lurking there.... waiting to jump on every response in the most negative way possible.. like creepy stalkers.

When the backlash would have hurt someone I cared about I have, but not if it only effected me.

Yeah, when it comes to someone I love I try to be honest but not brutality so.

Not so much me telling the person directly, rather if I told the truth it could cause a backlash to those around me. Kind of hard to explain but I'd rather not give details.

haven't we all in one way or another? I wish I could have voted no but being honest I have avoided speaking the truth because either I didn't want to hurt someones feelings, or I felt it wasn't important/significant enough to mention or because I knew it would make me look bad and start a huge fight that wasn't worth it. Honesty is not always the best policy, I've learned sometimes its better not to know (or tell).

There have been studies that show that when a man and a woman are friends with each other, subconsciously they always want to tap that ass. They just lie to themselves so much that the possibility is almost impossible.
