Have you ever had a cop still try to search your vehicle/house etc. after you denied a search?

I would not deny them the ability to search my home, or my vehicle. I have nothing to hide and it would simply be a waste of their time. But if they continued the search with your denial, then they had to have probable cause and it could have even been in the way you conveyed that you didn't want a search done. That is, way to often, an admission of guilt.

I always deny a search even if I have nothing to hide. No cops are welcome in my house or my vehicle. I don't like people going through my stuff.

And you are correct. No warrant, no search. I much dislike this LEO attitude of 'what've you got you're hiding'. Nothing, not a damn thing. But the Constitution has a clause about illegal search and seizure and I'll not be bullied by a uniform.

Absolutely. It's one of the reasons I got involved with the local court system.

When cops still try to search my vehicle or house or whatever after I deny a search. I ask them "can I search your car too because that's only fair."

And that will get you into trouble. Seriously. Ill advised to lip like that to LEO with a gun. Bad enough HE has an attitude, meeting him with one is doomed to failure, and I'm not talking about his....

They have a right if they think there is reason. Why were you under suspicion in the first place? And, truthfully, what was/is it you don't want them to find?

I think you have a bad attitude and THAT is why you seem suspect. I wouldn't trust you either. Just reading what you write - I would bet that there is something that you have or do that could get you in legal trouble. Chances are, you have been a bully or you've been in a few fights over the years. And you might want to re-read what your rights are. You see, there is a "probable cause" clause mentioned in almost EVERY state Constitution.

You do know we have Constitutionally protected rights against search and seizure without due process, right? Those are our rights and many a soldier, including myself and my father, served and defended this country to protect those rights.

To adopt an attitude that "I have nothing to hide so why should I care," is a negation of those fundamental rights and an abnegation of your responsibility as a free citizen in a free country.

If we don't demand the authorities abide by Constitutional principles and we don't exercise our rights in the face of illegal actions by the authorities, then we won't have those right for very long.

Keep in mind, the police, or any authorities (local, state, county, federal) have no rights whatsoever. They only have authority. And that authority is constrained by a citizen's Constitutional rights and protections.

Since when is standing up for your Constitutionally guaranteed rights "an admission of guilt?"

Standing up for your Constitutional rights is one thing; being a smart ass is another. Cops aren't stupid, and that .01% who are "bad" aren't stupid - jackasses, maybe, but not stupid. I am not a cop - you couldn't pay me enough, but I do know people. Most people with attitude problems with cops have a reason to be - because they themselves are doing/have done something wrong.

When I worked for the government, we were sent to public housing units on occasion. The honest people respected and depended on cops. It was those who had been violating laws and or simply causing trouble for others that didn't like or respect the cops. There are exceptions, but few.

I've never had any cop ask to see anything beyond my driver's license and registration.
