I'm not sure about a concussion but I've been hit by a car, I ran through a glass window, smashed my mouth on a fence post and cut the tip of my middle finger off...twice. I think there's been more but I don't remember.

A kid accidentally knocked me out with his knee as he jumped into the pool when I was eight or something. People thought I was bluffing so they didn't get me out of the water right away, even though I was floating face down. My big brother was furious about that. We were driven by a stranger to the ER and I didn't Completely wake up until after we arrived - but luckily all I got was a concussion :)

I had to sit in a wheelchair though, but luckily not for more than one day.

I have not had a concussion. I don't know if the recent death of Junior Seau is why you are asking, but I have never been a fan of football because it is so violent. I have been noticing many shows about young players and former professional players having all kinds of problems from repeated head trauma. I remember when Dave Duerson shot himself (in the heart) and left a note asking that his brain be studied - because of the problems he had been having and the potential link to all the head trauma from football. This may have been the same kind of problem for Junior Seau - who just took his own life. I'm glad my son didn't take an interest in playing football.

probably, but i don't go to the doctor unless i have to. i've broke my hand a couple times. i know because the bone grew back a little off. i have been hit in the head hard enough to hear a loud crack inside my skull. i assume i had one. i don't know. forced myself to stay awake as long as i could then went to bed.

Oh, wow, your story sounds almost exactly like mne. Have you had any lingering effects from them? I had them pretty bad there for a while.
  • Veritas JenSemPa 2012/05/05 12:27:33

I never thought about it until I saw something on the news this morning about the football player that killed himself. The report indicated that depression could be a lingering effect.

I have battled with depression in the past and it is a little worse this year, but I attributed it to dramatic life changes, but now I wonder if this could be part of the problem.
  • JenSemPa Veritas 2012/05/05 13:50:28

It very well could be. I've been there!

Are you seeing anyone about the depression? If not, I would start.

If you are, but haven't mentioned the concussions, I'd tell him/her about it. Identifying the causes of a problem is so important with regard to addressing them.

    Good luck and God bless!

Ha! Ha! Don't ask me THAT. I was actually a DOA once. I was comatose for 36-hours; but to me, as far as I was concerned, it was for approximately 58-hours . . . I was struck by a tree . . . My head actually struck the tree. (Automobile crash) . . . The ER people gave up on me and literally stuffed my remains underneath a table in the ER. My Dad and a young Doctor from England made them attend to me, and I later survived. I was only taking a breath once every 30-seconds . . . I don't remember the crash, itself; but I recall the beginning of the drive, though. The time that expired after that was a total of appx. 15-20 minutes. I just can't remember. I remember what I was wearing . . . And I recall some of the events that took place earlier. I slept and slept and slept . . . Sometimes for as long as 16-hours straight. I'm okay now. I have had extensive medical-testing, and everything. It was thought that I would go at least partially blind; but it's okay. I had to stay in a dark-room for the daylight hours and the lights could only be a small amount during the evening. NO TV at all. No excitement. Within three weeks I got back to my studies in school. About experiencing an out-of-the-body whatever DEFINITELY NO!!!

I had a real beauty, complete with a few broken bones when I fell while working in a high altitude environment and had to spend the next 24 hours in a barometric chamber to prevent High Altitude Cerebral Edema while the doc kept checking on me and slowly taking me back to the ambient presure for 14,500 feet.

I bent down to grab some paperwork under the counter, when I was working at a coffee shop... as I was standing up, my co-worker quickly turned around holding a full coffee canister. I made it through my shift all right, but the next day I started randomly going unconscious now and then. lol
