Once I worked in a warehouse, and one of the managers had a vendetta against me because he had a thing for one of the receptionists that I ended up going out with. So for weeks he would put me into these maintenance positions. Stuff that I wasn't hired to do. Then one day he hands me a leaf blower and tells me to clean the parking lot. After about an hour of patiently waiting for him to move his car, and him yelling at me for not cleaning the lot in time. I decided to just clean it, with his expensive sports car still parked there.

I have been working since I was 14 years old. I am 54 Now. I have worked in 2 Food Service settings (1 Fast Food, 1 Semi Sit down restaurant) Insurance, An Operating Room, 4 Nursing Homes, 2 Doctors Offices, Drug Stores, An Answering Service, Record Store, A Collections Agency, Telephone Company, A Casino, 5 Retail Stores, 3 Correctional Institutions, and A Staffing Agency as a recruiter. Out of all of that experience I can say that I have been fired from 4 of them, and only 1 of those was a legitimate termination. (Didn't Collect Monthly objective). I do not play politics well and because of that I have been fired, not for poor performance but because I wouldn't Kiss Up or Suck It...................

I transferred from NM to Co with a dental HMO company knowing the risks. The Project Director was known as Rod the Terminator. In a couple years, he'd gone through 12 people in a 4 person office.

When I got there, I realized why. He was a lackey, he'd take credif for other's work, schmooze the regional people above him, and worst of all, he hired his marginally intelligent, terribly inefficient high school buddy to be the Assistant Director. The guy was CLUELESS!! Neither would do anything to improve the process of the operation. They were losing subscribers, losing doctors, and everything I did got criticized. "I don't care what you did in New Mexico." Well that's nice, but something needs to save your numbers, Buddy!

When I ran the monthly reports, I noticed some money taken out of the project funds to pay for Chris (his buddy's) personal dental bills. Hmm. That ain't right. I notified the regional people and Rod got wind. He schmoozed the regionals again (crawling under the desk???!!) and I got let go. Not a problem. I was still in Denver as a young single and very employable. Life went on and I didn't have to associate with slimes any longer.

I was fired from my Saturday job at a gas station when I was 17. Someone was taking money from the till, and they didn't know who, so they started firing people at random.

Of course. About a million yrs ago, I worked as a bus repairman at GM. They used to fire 1/3 of all the workers periodically to prevent the UAW from getting in.

My boss at the last job I had in Florida was set to fire me.I walked in and as she started to say you are fired I looked at her, held up my hand and said rather loudly,"this will only take a minute",Take this job, bend over and shove it up your ass.I quit. She was so surprised she sat dumbfounded as I walked out.

When I was 15 I was fired from Dunkin Donuts. I kind of had a lot of other things on my mind at the time. I was in high school and trying to take care of my dying mother.
I really screwed up on the job and deserved to be let go. First, I had never used a dishwasher before and broke some dishes when I pulled the rack out. Then I made coffee without a filter and it started to spew all over the place. Yeah, I deserved to be let go.

It was calumny and even mobbing. I never knew who spread lies about me and who tried to terrorise me with anonymous midnight calls and threats, except for those who committed sexual harassment. Most probably, questioning the lacking progress of women's rights in a too machist society at that time had very negative consequences, and that in spite of legislative efforts on a national level.
The funniest of the story is that about a decade later, we had our first female minister.
But there is still a gap between politically admitted equal rights and their application in work and society.

Many, many years ago I was fired from Fidelity Bank in Philadelphia for refusing to fire two employees because my supervisor didn't like women and fat people. I threatened to notify the news media and was quickly ushered out and given a stipend to keep quiet. Things were different then, if this happened today, I would have brought suit against the Bank and management. My supervisors manager also supported his sickness. These people had excellent performance reviews in the past. My youth prevented me from making a good judgement call and the money they gave me was needed desperately for payment of student loans. A mistake I regret until today. Luckily I was in Information Technology so I was able to procure another job quickly and at a higher salary.

Technically, no - I was a contractor and at the end of the contract term, they declared that the work I was contracted to do had been done. However, when they didn't hire me for the direct position, and I was told I no longer worked there, it sure felt like being fired. The company went bankrupt less than a year later. I like to say that every company dumb enough to fire me went bankrupt.
