Yes i have but ONLY because i knew who they were. Otherwise i never invite unknown strangers into my vehicle. To many people out there wandering the countryside hitch hiking are lunatic's. I trust NONE of them.
I would never do that. One day, I was at the grocery store and a woman came up to me out of the blue and asked me to drive her downtown. Downtown is not a safe area for one, and I so I told her I couldnt help her. I am glad I had sense enough to turn her down.
I saw an old man sitting at the bus stop in the rain on a holiday. I knew where he headed and offered to give him a ride. I also saw a USC Trojan fan walking toward the game once and picked him up to make sure he got to the game before kickoff.
a long time ago. i wouldnt pick anyone up now unless i knew them. i used to hitchike my self when i was young and stupid. i was lucky nothing ever happened to me.
I used to hitchike all over the east coast when I was in college. I therefore always picked up hitchhikers myself, even after I got married. Once the children were born, however, my values changed and I would never pick up a stranger with a baby in the car. The children are now grown, but I have not resumed the practice unless I know the person.
no but one time i was with my grandma and aunt on xmas vacation in washington and we saw a hitchhiker right off the interstate and he wanted $1 or some food and so my grandma told me and my cousin to give him the full box of cookies but instead we gave him the box that was almost empty. we didnt want to give up our cookies to some stranger. hahaha. it was so funny. then we told her that when she pulled away and she got pissed at us. it was hilarious though!
I have actually done this a few times. No one made me put the lotion on my skin nor tried to hack me up into little pieces or do anything aside from sayin thanks fer the lift. Though I will also say I have past up a few as well. A girl has to be careful =)
Dozens of times in the 60's & 70's last time I picked up someone was last weekend when I saw a woman broken down on a stretch of road some 5-miles off the interstate she was about 45-yrs. old and had a Blown engine in her Chevy Cobalt, and no cell phone, I took her to her sister's house which was about 6-miles away from her downed Car. I think she was more afraid of me than me of her and I can't blame her the ways thing happen in bigger Cities or anywhere for that matter.
On the surface it may appear crazy to do so in this time we live in but you just have to go with your gut feelings in life & things always work out the way they are supposed to. I'd always want someone to give me a ride if I really needed one... Part of the whole karma thing.
One time I picked up a sailor in uniform on the New Jersey turnpike. He got in and pulled out a knife and threatened me. I pulled over and pulled out my .38 S&W; and told him to get out! That was the last time I picked up a hitchhiker! That was in 1969.
Over where I'm from it's still not considered that dangerous, I see hitchhikers all the time and I've hitched half way across the country too, we don't have a lot of that sort of crime. Though there was a awful story about a year ago when a COP picked up a 14 year old hitch hiker and then raped her in his apartment, and of course she thought she could trust him since he was a police officer.
Yes, but more often than not, people bury their personalities and you don't see it coming till it's too late. There are far too many stories of serial killers appearing normal or attractive, but hiding a deep, dark and twisted personality underneath. Appreciate you giving back to the community as they have helped you, but I'd rather not take my chances. After, it's better to be safe than sorry.
Mostly women,I'm a sucker for a lady in distress. I know one of these days her boyfriend is going to jump out of the brush and kill me. I picked one up in a snowstorm after she slid out in the road in front of me and my jeep slid sideways up to her after I hit the brakes. She started coming onto me, I'm pretty sure she was a pro she abandoned me at a truck stop for a trucker. Just as well I still lived at home at the time.
Lots of times in the late 60's early 70's. I also did a lot of hitchhiking too. Had a few interesting, sometimes scary moments. But I still did it. Dumb ass kid! But I wouldn't even think about it now!!
Blessings to all,
and May all be well with you ^_^
