Yes, luckily a few times. Usually while in the woods away from any sounds other than those made by the surroundings, or in the night with only the stars above and no ambient light to disturb their beauty. So, yes.

Picture it, August 1994. I was canoeing down the Pier Marquette river in Baldwin Michigan. The sun was just beginning to rise as was the early morning mist. The only noise present was the sound of water flowing between the river banks and my paddle going in and out of the water. I noticed something moving out of the corner of my left eye and shoulder level. When I turned my head I saw a Blue Heron gliding with me. We looked at each other and I like to think that time stood still for both of us ;-)
