Hey, have you ever been homeless!? (I have)

I give money and/or food and/or socks and/or hats, scarves, and gloves in the winter...and if I don't have any of that stuff, I at least say hello.

How In Lucifers name does giving the homeless a dollar encourage homelessness. I am sure the thought of siting the same cloths day in and out smelling like garbage and going hungry to get a few dollars here and there sound much more appealing then being inside in a decent home with a job and a change of cloths

I don't give them money. I have given them food and have donated to clothing banks.

I usually sneak up on homeless people and steal their money and booze from them when they're not looking just to reinforce the poor decisions they made in life with further punishment. It helps me get through the day knowing I will help eliminate homelessness by doing so, by showing those who are now planning to become homeless that it really isn't as fun and profitable as they have been led to believe.

Can you give me some raves for being such an awesome productive member of society?

Yes NFNF, I'm sure his plan A was having a great old time homeless on the streets suffering untold levels of hardship and abuse. He only chose that as plan B when all that suffering just got too boring.

Okay love, you do that. Kind of an odd place to put me though - as far as I'm aware, trolls tend to lack the mental capacity to use the level of scathing British sarcasm found in my last post. Usually they just go 'Ug, gays bad, Ug Ug, homeless bad, Ug Ug Ug, women and blacks bad, Ug, incest good'.

I really couldn't tell you if I did. Hopefully not but at the time, I think I'm doing a good thing. I'd much rather donate time in helping with feeding them or giving blankets or clothing.

Well, I couldn't tell you how old NF was. She sounded educated at times and very sarcastic. But people have mentioned that it could have been someone older and even a man that used a young girls picture. I'm just happy that shes gone. I normally don't block but it seems like here lately people are ruthless and then I tend to give it back.

This is like arguing that giving an alcoholic a job is just enabling them to continue their malady... There are plenty of homeless people who do not use drugs or alcohol...

They figure that 45% (approx.) of homeless folks are mentally ill and do not have the life skills needed to support themselves. I give blankets and food, scarves and mittens. Every year some die of exposure in these cold climates. I would have it on my conscience if I didn't try to help in some way.

Oh, and 1 out of 4 are veterans of our military, WITH good paper. They deserve help, IMHO.

I have given money to them when I was photographing them for a photo project I have been working on for sometime.

I do not like to give money to the homeless as a rule. I have fed them by giving them food

The ones that I most dislike are the ones that stand with the signs at the street corners. Many to most of them do just that for a living. I also can't stand the ones that come to you with some line like "I am out of gas....I need to get my wife...I need to get to a job interview but..." I hat those most because it keeps me from helping people that really are in a bad spot.

All homeless have a different story. Some want to be homeless, Some are on drugs yet some are really just down on their luck. It is hard tho tell. Their are cities that do more to help the homeless and other that do not help at all or just very little. I know that Fort Worth has more shelters and have done more to have a better place for them to go than in Dallas. In Dallas they seem to be all over. but in Fort Worth not so much. I think that is because Fort Worth has done more to help so they have a place to go rather than be out all over.

I do know this. We have always had homeless and I bet we will always have homeless. It would be nice if that was not so but I do not have the answer to this problem.

I could go on an on but I will stop here.

I have on occasion. When people claim they are gathering money for the bus, I will just pay the driver the fare for them. I don't give money to people I fear will just spend it pickling their brain. But I also recognize that when the Wall Street banksters crashed the US economy, that put 14 million people out of work through no fault of their own and that the GOP who demonizes the jobless are working to let the banksters do it again. After all, it makes certain billionaires obscenely large amounts of money, and they toss a few billion to the GOP as a thank you.

I am a little puzzled by those that think giving the poor a helping hand will make them lazy, but giving to someone who's so wealthy they live on investments alone and keep all their money in off-shore accounts so its tax free will make them work harder. Hey, they don't work and more money for them won't ever change that.

I hear ya - makes no sense to me either - what really puzzles me is that a person who claims to be christian thinks that lending a helping hand is un-christian - I am non-denominational and I am more christian than most who claim to be

Many "homeless" people are not actually homeless. They're scammers. We had a local journalist follow one guy at the end of the day. He picked his car up nearby at a park and ride below the freeway and drove home to a house.

That said, many homeless are ex-veterans. They have physical and psychological disorders that make holding down a job difficult. Lumping all homeless people together is kind of assinine really.
