I have been through more then 3 and no it didnt take weeks to get things back up and running then. People just did what it took to get it done not just piss and moan about how bad it was. They worked and complained at the same time. I dont see it now.

We were having dinner in a brick building so was relatively safe.

The picture below is not the same tornado but one that we were able to get a shot of. This was 2 years ago.

yes, one while driving home from a vacation in the south.. we were driving from Dallas to Colorado and were going to go thru OK but it looked very black going north so we decided to travel through Fort Worth and go west .. it was in late March in 99 I think.. we drove straight into a tornado and got stuck unable to get off the freeway.. luckily because we were travelling opposite directions to the storm we were in it the least amount of time..it was very scary as we could not see a thing and just prayed we didn't hit anything or that anything would hit us.. a lot of flying junk hit our vehicle but nothing too heavy..we heard later that there were people killed and mostly by flying glass from office buildings in Ft. Worth..

About 13 years ago a tornado passed directly over my house, but fortunately did not touch down until it went about a mile beyond. It did some pretty severe damage to a business district close by. I was awakened by 2 windows slamming shut that had been left open on either side of the chimney. I then heard what sounded like a freight train, and got up to investigate. The sky was green, and there was heavy wind and rain. I felt so fortunate that it did not hit my house. I'm not sure I would have had time to seek adequate shelter from the time it woke me up!

Where I come from, they're not unusual this time of year. The biggest one struck my hometown on April 3, 1974 I was in the basement, and did NOT go outside to watch it.

Yes, it was terrible and it tore roofs of people homes, electric-lines were all over the place and trees were all over the street. It was pitch-black outside, it was very scary! No one was killed, but a lot of people got hurt.

I live in Florida, I have seen the after effects of a few.

One time my father and I where driving down a long road up in North Florida, the sky was dark and all of a sudden the wind became ferociously strong, I pulled of the road along side a pine forest (which shielded us from the direction of the wind), all of a sudden my father and I heard this loud noise and then a cracking and the top half of a tree was tossed to our left out into the road.

All of a sudden the wind stopped, we got out of my van and looked around, the tops of half a dozen trees, one as big around as a dinner table, had been snapped off by a tornado, that had come down and had seemingly skimmed the top of the forest.

My dad and I followed the trail of destruction taking photographs, the most damage I seen from it was a tree had been knocked down on top of a little red farm house. We checked on the occupants, they where shaken up but, had survived.

I remember going to the Indy 500 when some tornados came through. It was really scary and the rain was something to reckon with. We say houses torn apart as we drove home that night. Scary.

I've seen two. One was a small one that didn't look like it was doing much damage but actually went right behind an elementary school and took out a whole line of old oak trees and damaged homes in a half mile radius. The large one touched down and went right back up without doing damage.

Coming home from the grocery store, I saw a bad storm coming so iI parked Chevy, Malibu in this 42' x 50' barn so that it wouldn't sustain any hail damage. I went in the house to warn some friends and by the time I came out to get my groceries... A tornado flattenned the "hail" out of both of them !
