Fresh fruits and veggies. The selections are limited and half the time what they are selling is on the verge of going bad. If they do have decent looking stuff the price is so high you pass by it.

Some brands of juices and juice drinks are disappearing. Some variations of Jello are going away. Dairy products are WAY up as is meat. And it's going to get worse. Last year Texas ranchers had to sell off herds including breeding stock because they couldn't afford to buy feed for them and the drought made grazing impossible. Of course this might not be a problem had the prices of corn not been artificially inflated last year by its used for corn ethanol. Why are we putting food crops in our gas tanks when we have a huge supply of oil and gas and could have more with release to drill off shore?

I have been searching for some Brussel Sprouts for 2 years, they seem to have vanished from sight. I can't even find them fresh in the produce department. Also chicken drumetts (sp?) are not in the markets any longer.

    Depends on the season ..
but there's been shortages of everything from spices (for cooking purposes)
to sometimes Fuel for vehicles ..
and then there's the odd stocking patterns nowadays ..
(so you don't always have bread in the stores .. or the meat supplies are different patterns than before) ..

Most of these are cyclical or weather related ..
but lately .. the changes in stocking .. are due mostly to the HORRIBLE Economic
Depression we are experiencing .. (with much higher prices for all commodities that consumers purchase regularly).

Well, they'll tell you the price increases are mainly due to the high cost of energy, but the worldwide consumption of oil is WAY down. There's something going on here, and it doesn't smell good at all.

To make not a single comment about the inflationary practices of the federal reserve really frustrates me. You make a good point too, supply and demand of energy - obviously plays a huge factor in the prices of all things, but the reason gasoline has gone from 50 cents a gallon in the past to $4.00 a gallon in the present has a lot more to due than just availability of resources. It's because the dollar has been systematically devalued since 1913 and even more so since we came off the gold standard in the 70's.

You have to survive TILL then, so stocking up just makes sense as a hedge against inflation if nothing else. (Buying cuts of meat at five dollars a pound beats the hell out of waiting till it's ten dollars a pound.) Back in the day, they called it 'civil defense.' The Girl Scouts called it 'being prepared.'

It worries me sometimes how my compatriots have let their guards down, and have become totally dependent on the supply infrastructure and/or government. Any disaster/disruption at all and half the country is screwed. That ain't good.
