I do want to make an observation, though. When I was in school, which isn't all that long ago, my parents were required to provide a trapper keeper, lined paper, folders, pens, pencils, erasers and spiral bound notebooks.
The following is a list of strange school supplies that are required for this school year, other than the ones listed above. This is per child:
2 - 20oz bottles of hand sanitizer
6 boxes of Kleenex
4 rolls of paper towels
4 reams of copy paper
1 package of disposable cups, forks and plates
2 packages of diaper wipes
1 large bag of suckers or hard candy
2 additional packages of pencils 50 count
The first time we noticed that there was a huge amount of strange supplies on the list was last year. Out of curiosity, I asked what their uses were.
I was told that every one of the items I listed above were given to their homeroom teacher, and distributed to other teachers and staff as needed.
My husband went into a rant when I informed him what, and who the supplies were for. His point, and mine as well, is that we pay an average of $230 on book and supplies fees for each of our four children totaling almost $1000 each year, and that is with only one high sc...

Is there anyone else who thinks that it is a bit much to request high book fees to the tune of $1,000 AND an enormous amount of supplies that are put directly into the hands of the teacher and not my child's?
Our child had to take in :
2 boxes Kleenex,
2 rolls paper towels
3 large clorox wipes
2 packages notebook paper
6 pencils
2 red pens
3 spiral notebooks
1, 2 inch wide binder
washable markers
colored pencils
binder dividers
20 sheet protectors
book covers
construction paper
Pentel white, hi polymer erasers
we get periodoc classroom "need" lists as well, for more kleenex, paper towels, plastic ware, and ketchup, mustard and other fast food package sauces.
Since school's starting early this year for me, it'll be weird, because it'll be the first time I'm in school on my birthday.
Although I can never resist going to a stationery store, there's something about them that I love.
