In 7th grade I attended a largely Latino middle school. I blended right in because I look Mexican, despite being half black and half white. But one day something happened and the black kids and Mexican kids were going to have a huge fight after school. I had friends on both sides. I didn't want to get involved. So as I'm walking to the bus stop to go home, the two groups were facing off and one of the black kids that knew me from our neighborhood went "Hey! You're one of us, come over here and help." (I was a big kid) and a Mexican girl I liked on the other side stared at me confused like 0_o
So I stood there a moment and weighed my feelings for the girl I liked against my loyalty to the kids I lived in the same neighborhood with and I went "Nunca he visto a estas personas en mi vida!" and walked to the bus.
Took about a year and a half for my friends from the hood to speak to me again.
