Far more good. Christianity alone delivered Europe from it's brutal, illiterate barbarian Dark Ages. Christianity developed Empiricism and sponsored Science, Arts, Universities, Hospitals, charities, human rights, etc. Those literate monks also preserved the only knowledge of Roman and Greek civilizations. There was none of this outside of the church among the illiterate and brutal barbarian populations.

Atheism is absolute madness when taken seriously. The track record of modern Atheist leadership has been reliably horrific on a scale unprecedented in history.

It's a shame that some many are being propagandized to believe religion is the problem.

I think religion is the greatest impediment to progress that has ever been devised.

They call the era from the fall of the Roman empire to the age of Enlightenment the dark ages for a reason; the Church ruled with an iron grip for 1500 years. With the waning of their influence the greatest explosion of knowledge mankind had ever enjoyed began during that time and continues to this day, at least in the Western world. Islamic countries still have a way to go. And you also have regimes like North Korea and Myanmar that hold their people captive and stifle freedom of thought.

They who? "They" whom you never identify don't account for the massing of barbaric pagan tribes into nations of civilized Christians, the reign of Charlemagne, the educational legacy of monasteries and the relative lifting of safety and living standards up to the Renaissance. How do you suppose any of this would have happened without the Church?

I guess as long as you were a believer you got along fine, but what about heretics, witches and scientists? So, you saying the church elevated and enlightened the masses?

So you rely on anonymous Wikipedia sources to make your point? You can take your chances with the witches and pagans if you like. There wouldn't even be any scientists in the centuries following Rome's fall if it weren't for the civilizing influence of Christianity. So easy to place the blame on your target of derision rather than consider the conditions of Europe at that time. You're no fairer in your judgement than the inquisitors you condemn as representatives of Christianity.

I could find more sources, but I don't think I really need to.

"There wouldn't even be any scientists in the centuries following Rome's fall if it weren't for the civilizing influence of Christianity."

Go tell that to Copernicus, Kepler and Galileo.

The internet's a treasure trove of sources for your ignorant partisan hate mongering if that's all you're into.
Tell what to Copernicus, Kepler and Galileo? That they would've fared better as scientists among pagans?

You sound like a liberal with the name calling, so full of hate. The Church hated the aforementioned and even jailed Galileo because his findings were contrary to the Church. It's history, not the Internet you Idiot. Don't be a dumb ass and enlighten yourself. There are other books than the Bible.

Galileo was dragged before the Church authorities by rival scientists who were threatened by his prestige. That's some history to enlighten you from your parochial education.
Scientists who dare to question the fraudulent theories of the global warming establishment are getting the same treatment today.

That's your opinion and I disagree. Just because someone does not agree with you does not make them narrow minded, CALLING them so due to that fact makes YOU the narrow minded one.

Now if that's the only response you can muster I suggest you move along.

You speak for the entire SH community? LMFAO. Opinion poll does not equal debate site. Get your facts straight. Like I said, you just keep flapping your jaw but I do not have time right now for some huge debate. I stated what my opinion was on a POLL question, NOT an open ended one. Frankly, you aren't going to change my opinion and sometimes I simply can't take debating with religious nut jobs. They are blind and do not accept facts. They just continue to repeat the same thing over and over....Which is exactly what you are doing.

I was was just referring to who I usually get replies from on topics like this, which is why I am reluctant to even get into a debate such as this. I didn't mean you. To me, religious is one thing, but crazy AND religious is another. It's just as bad as being a crazy atheist.

Religion doesn't do that good for ALL people. Just those who actually follow it. But it's given a far better outcome in the world compared to your ideal of a world with NO religion in which there will still be guns and war and etc, etc. Who needs religion indeed? Not you hiding behind the protective robes of our Christian established civilization which has given you the luxury to condemn it from behind your keyboard.
Now if none of this penetrates your thick angry skull just reply with one of your dumb laughing faces.

if people really followed and did what Jesus said...it would be a great world...but being they say they do and don't...and use guns to justify their faith...I'd say that's all baloney...Jesus is not a religion...but man made him into one to cause wars....
  • Soundstorm Manuel 2012/06/11 02:34:18
    Soundstorm
If you don't care to make any effort yourself to follow and do what Jesus said you're no one to complain.
Nobody uses guns to justify Christ. If there's anybody who uses guns to justify their worldview it's the followers of Chairman Mao's religion. Christ's followers on the other hand did a good job of justifying Him when they were mere amusement for the Roman circuses. But today we're in a position to defend our lives, families and freedom against violent predators. And from this you're also an ungrateful beneficiary.
  • Manuel Soundstorm 2012/06/11 18:45:30
    Manuel
I follow Jesus, I don't need to own a gun or defend my family from violent predators....it doesn't matter what evil happens to me or my family in this country....because Jesus promised us a forever future in heaven...So why should I not accept it if my daughter gets raped or my sons get killed by some crazy gun carrying fool like Zimmerman...All this was God's will for me if it happens. I would wait for his judgement to take care of all this evil.

My heart is not in this world or this Country which is just as evil as any other place here on earth ...that's why I chose the Liberal view which is much more inline with Jesus' thoughts...

This is how a Christian is to be...anything else makes that person a lair...

You don't need a gun? Are your hands deadly weapons? Or do you have Rosie O'Donnell's bodyguards to defend you and your family? America is probably as evil as anyplace on Earth but maybe you'd be safer in Cuba.
