It's letting your child fail. Some lessons come hard, but are best learned when they have their parents there to help pick them up.

bidding their own daughter good bye after her marriage.
I'm not a parent, neither a girl. I just think this is the hardest.

Saying No to what may be considered popular. Actually being a parent and saying no to many things from having a cell phone to a TV in their room, to no dating until 16, more No's than yes's.

Let go. Our children start out depending on us for everything. As the years go by, they depend on us less and less. When our children become adults, we have to let go. This is very difficult because in our eyes they are still our children and they always will be. Letting go doesn't mean we're losing them. We'll always have them and they us.

The hardest thing is not enabling your child/adult.

Watch helplessly when your child suffers pain from something you cannot prevent.

That IS a hard one. My son was hit by an SUV years ago and all we could do is sit by his bed and pray he come out of his coma. He did, but suffered brain trauma from it. But, God keeps His protection around my son as he is living on his own now.

I'm so sorry about that horrible accident but glad thins are better now. I'm glad he is able to live on his own and I hope he is happy. That is all I ask for my son, that he be safe and happy.

I think that was the hardest thing to do because I knew the road they were on only headed for pain. But, I bit my tongue and let them learn.

Even if they aren't headed in a bad direction, they still need to learn from their mistakes. Sometimes what they learn is simply that it was just a mistake and they will do it differently next time. I think it really helps them to make better decisions.

Realizing that your child is no longer a child. And letting them spread their wings a little bit. You can't protect them forever.
