Half of Americans Now Believe in Creationism?

~ The Rebel ~ 2012/06/11 04:00:23

Only 15 percent of Americans now believe the human species evolved from lower
forms of life and God had no part in the process, a new Gallup poll reveals.

And nearly half of those polled say they believe God created humans in their
present form within the last 10,000 years.

Creationism was chosen by 46 percent of respondents; 32 percent said they
believe in theistic evolution; and 15 percent opted for secular evolution.

Not surprisingly, creationism was the choice of 67 percent of respondents who
said they attend church weekly, while 25 percent of those who rarely or never
attend church agreed with that view.

But it is somewhat surprising that 46 percent of college graduates — and 25
percent of those with postgraduate education — say God created humans in their
present form within the last 10,000 years.

Here in TN, they have taken steps though new legislation to allow creationism back into the classroom. This law turns the clock back nearly 100 years here in the seemingly unprogressive South and is simply embarrassing. There is no argument against the Theory of Evolution other than that of religious doctrine. The Monkey Law only opens the door for fanatic Christianity to creep its way back into our classrooms. You can see my visual response as a Tennessean to this absurd law on my artist’s blog at http://dregstudiosart.blogspo... with some evolutionary art and a little bit of simple logic.

It's even more surprising that only 15% of Americans accept evolution without supernatural magic. This is a national disgrace.

    good and bad.
bad: that people don't understand basic science
good: i don't live in the US to hear it all the time.

Considering most Americans want this country to be a theocracy and choose to believe in 6000-year creationism in direct contradiction with fact, I'm not surprised countries like China and India will be leaving America in the dust in the future while we're all still burning witches and banning books...

Americans are but youngsters in the maturing graph. Don't forget their numbers were made up of all the religious nuts who believed in witches. They thought of themselves a puritains but the Europeans thought they were trouble.

lol, I am. I recognize when people have been dumbed down. Shame you don't. Say are you one of the ignorant uneducated Americans who believe that God created mankind within the past 10000 years?

I cannot convince brain dead zombies of anything. It could be raining cats and dogs yet you type will insist that it is sunny. I don't have to prove anything as scientific fact backs me up. But go ahead and believe in your fairy tales. Just don't dumb down the rest of the country.

I could posts lots of sources stating that the earth is far older than 10,000 but close to 5 billion. But you wouldn't accept it as it wasn't provided by God. Right? Is there any scientific evidence you would accept? I doubt it.

"Science" think it trumps God but without God there would be no science.

They go together. Your sources are biased. I suppose you believe in AGW, too.

No I don't believe in global warming, I know it is happening. Belief is not necessary any longer.

Where I am sure this poll was done in a highly religious setting, it's truly sad that people believe the world is only 10,000 years old when archaeology finds have been dated civilizations all over the world as MUCH older than 10,000 years.

It makes me wonder is these kinds of people read anything about ancient civilizations that existed before we did, as many exist which are very well documented in books and have been made into Tv programs for those that dislike reading anything but their bible.

It is fine, I guess, to believe this but carbon dating and anthropology prove than man is older than creationism describes. Considering that the bible does not conflict with evolution (only means change through time), there is really no reason for creationism

Carbon dating is flawed and acedemic anthrpologists have an atheistic agenda. NOTHING has been proven.
