Guys: have you ever had the "talk" with your future brother in law? Ladies, do you know if your brother had the "talk" with your future husband?

onetirednurse 2012/05/24 20:13:51
You know, telling your sister's future husband that he better treat her well or you will hunt him down and kick his butt for wronging her..
My brother (5'7") said that to my 6'4" police officer husband the night before we got married. My husband just shook his hand and told my brother he loves me very much and he hopes it never comes to that..
You!

I guess I just can't relate to this. My two brothers were much more welcome-to-the-family with my husband, and as such, they would not get into issuing these bombastic macho threats.

The other thing is that I'm a woman, which means I am a GROWN-UP. I don't need anyone else, not even my brothers, to fight my battles for me.

Also, the man I chose to marry is not the type of person whose butt would ever need to be kicked by one of my brothers. My brothers know me and trusted me enough to marry a man who was already of high-quality and would not need anyone else to "set him straight."

That's how my husband and my brothers are. That's why, again, maybe I just can't relate to what I am reading here.

My brother likes my husband a lot. They hunt and fish together all the time. They get along great, it was just a formality that my brother had to put out there. He has heard bad stories about women marrying police officers. He just wanted my husband to know he won't sit back and let anything happen with out making noise.. My husband, even though he likes his brother in law did the samething when his sister got married. It's a kind of "welcome to the family but don't wrong my sister or you WILL have a problem with me" formality..

Hum.... I guess our family just minds their own business. My brother would never dream of telling my man what to do.

My little brother is a good guy, he was just doing his duty as a brother. Hubby knows not to mess with my brother or he has to answer to me :)~

Why would your husband mess with your brother anyway?

He wouldn't, they get along great. I think there is a communication gap here... There is a formality that takes place in some cultures. My husband was welcomed into the family with open arms, but he could easily wear out that welcome if he does anything to hurt me mentally or physically. My husband is not like that, he is pretty easy going. He didn't take offense to what my brother said like you are. He understands that a brother is expected to watch out for his sister, you know, defend her honor... In return, if he did try to do anything to my brother (which he would never do) he understands that my family is important to me, I wouldn't stand for it and he would possibly lose me too..

Sister. Younger sister, but, stronger than my older sister. I can take a hit and throw one back stronger than the other person, mainly because if I get hit I get pissed and black out. Though I try not to black out.. That can't be a good thing. But it makes me mad nonetheless, my adrenaline levels rise and it makes me stronger.

Haha yeah. :) I wish we did have a brother though. That would be cool. (Older, not younger. Younger brothers seem to be annoying.)

He is a big imposing looking guy. Especially when he has his uniform and bullet proof vest on. He likes scaring the poop out of young punks that don't have any manners :) *hugs*

That's very sweet of you to look out for your cousins. My cousins don't even know what city I live in. The last time I heard from them on a regular basis was while I was deployed and I have been out of the Army for 8 years..
