Gunmen kills at least 8 at Omaha Mall. Are indoor malls safe to shop in anymore?

A man with a rifle opened fire at a busy shopping mall Wednesday in Omaha Nebraska, killing eight people before taking his own life. Five more people were wounded, two critically. Shoppers and employees ran screaming through the mall and barricaded themselves in dressing rooms after hearing gunfire. The gunman was found dead on the third floor of the Von Maur department store. eith Fidler, a Von Maur employee, said he heard a burst of five to six shots followed by 15 to 20 more rounds. Fidler said he huddled in the corner of the men's clothing department with about a dozen other employees until police yelled to get out of the store. President Bush was in town Wednesday for a fundraiser in Omaha, but left about an hour before the shooting. So, Do You Feel Safe Shopping in Indoor Malls Anymore?

    if you live life afraid of all of the food recalls, ur gonna starve. same situation with the gunman case.

    Heres what I think...

    it's not really safe to do anything; if we go outside we risk getting hit by a bus, if we stay in we risk our house catching on fire. we are never entirely safe and secure anywhere.
    we can become paranoid and obsessed about everything, too scared to move in case we get hurt or we can go ahead and live our lives. it means taking chances and being in danger but that's what living is about.

    i have gone to his mall all the time...and it is a good one to shop in...but no security at all...and the total dead is now nine and 5 wounded...!

    Where was the security guards in this story? These stories always piss me off because the psycho of the shoot out always takes his life at the end! I really feel bad for the victims ...

    Heres what I think...

    Thats a very sad story. And I pray for the souls of the people who were killed.
    But to tell you the truth, I don't go to shopping malls anyway. I have a phobia of them.

    It's a sad situation and I feel bad for all the victims. But if we stayed away from every where there has been a tragedy across the country, we'd never leave the house!

    Heres what I think...

    Unfortunately we're living in crazy times and like sport events, airports and other places... I think major malls ought to have metal detectors at all entrances to reduce the chances of this happening again (because this isn't the first mall shooting and it won't be the last).
