Sister Jean, there should be a video on You Tube that will help you set it up. I looked and there are a few there, but I don't know which Kindle you purchased. also, I have a Nook and there is help on the Barnes & Noble site for the Nook. There may be one through Amazon too.

Sorry for your frustration, but most electronic devices these days do not come with paper manuals--you have to go online to find them. Not sure why you're mad that it arrived 2 days early?

In any case, you could also take it to Best Buy or somewhere else that sells them and ask for help getting it going.

My sister loves hers, but I refuse to go to electronic books. I LOVE having a good paper book in my hands, turning the pages, etc. But I hope you get your's going or can get your money back.

The small button on the bottom is for on off or hibernate. If you hold the button it is for shutdown and will ask you if that is what you want. When it is turned on you will see a date time strip and you move across it to open the Kindle. Once open you will see a house icon that is home. Chapter 7 covers settings

If the Kindle you have is the Kindle Fire then all you have to do is turn it on and look through the documents that are included. One of those documents tell's you all about the Fire and how to operate it. Problem is you have to know how to turn it on and then find that document. Not hard but if your not familiar with a reader at all it can take a little time.

Not a good idea of them to not include a small instruction manual for people not used to using a reader.

Well I'm not sure why you got that message unless you hit the one button too many times. All you really needed to do then is to say "NO" and continue on. It can indeed be frustrating until you get the hang of it but it takes working with it, just like anything else that is new to us, so that we can learn what to do and what not to do. Sorry you are having such a hard time with it. All I can say is you have it, so don't give up. When you begin to learn how to use it you will not be sorry.

One thing that is very important however is that you have Wi-Fi available. That is how you communicate with Amazon to buy your books. If you do not have that then you truly have wasted your money.

I was surprised when I got mine and there wasn't any directions either. Then my teenaged daughter just turned the button on and pointed me to the directions in the Kindle itself!

I got the Kindle Fire and I'm surprisingly having a hard time adjusting. Sort of miss holding a book and since I can read for hours I got some monster headaches. My daughter (ever the helpful little genius) told me to adjust the brightness. Headache's gone.

    Enjoy and have fun!
