Growing meat without animals: Would you eat lab-grown meat?

Winston Churchill once predicted that it would be possible to grow chicken breasts and wings more efficiently without having to keep an actual chicken. And in fact scientists have since figured out how to grow tiny nuggets of lab meat and say it will one day be possible to produce steaks in vats, sans any livestock.

I saw something on this a couple of years back... it's disturbing to say the least. WTF is going on... I'll bet that this is once again about the shareholder and big business. It sickens me to no end that our governments allow this crap to happen. I used to buy apples in my local grocery store that had a sticker on them indicating they came from an apple orchard in British Columbia... today my local grocer stocks apples from Mr. Apple according to the new sticker. Who the hell is Mr. Apple? Has anyone other than me noticed that the produce we consume is pretty much flavorless now. Almost everything we eat has changed... I used to like Dad's Oatmeal Cookies - not so much anymore. Why? Because these huge food conglomerates are making them ever cheaper so that their god damn CEO's can collect bigger bonuses and to top it all off they gouge us at the till for an inferior product and a smaller package size/weight. Do yourselves a favor and buy your produce locally if you can or spend a little extra to shop at a whole foods market in your area. SAVE YOUR SEEDS if you do. Have you noticed the surprising absence of seeds in Water Melon, Apples, Oranges and Grapefruit to name a few? Pay attention to this if you shop the chains. Food producers do not want you or I to have a...

These items have been genetically modified to not produce seed (and we thought it was for our convenience)... it's all BS and now they want to create meat in a tube... I say F'em! I think the current food problems in the middle east are a direct result of the big food producers. Each and everyone of us has a voice and our voices matter... let's make sure they get heard. This is not acceptable!

I am all for this! Maybe if this stuff is invented (well, actually it already has been, but apparently it tastes horrible) people will stop brutally slaughtering innocent animals for no reason whatsoever except out of the desire for a tasty meal.

I don't see why not,... science has been able to keep a heart beaing and growing in a dish with nutrients so it's only a matter of time before the process becomes commercially available.

Even today many of the ordinary veggies people eat have been cloned and are grown in vats until they become large enough to be put out as seedlings,.. For example, how many people like those seedless grapes, etc,...

First, how do you grow meat. That could end up killing someone form a chemical or somthing in it.
Second, the livestock farmers would loose there jobs and only send are econemy deeper and deeper down into a ression.

No I wouldn't and you shouldn't either. Problem is, in this country they won't tell us that it's lab grown meat. Just one more reason I'm a vegetarian.

You do realize that a majority of veggies are no longer grown from seeds, rather they cell cloned a placed out as settings.

Yes I do realize that and it's horrible. I buy from local growers when I can't grow things myself. We do the best we can, but it's all but impossible to obtain real food anymore. The difference, to me anyway, is the way animals are treated in big agri-business. These are living breathing creatures! I just can't condone supporting their wholesale torture and slaughter anymore. I live in a house full of meat eaters and don't condemn anyone for their decisions. This is simply how I choose to live my life. :)

As long as there's no mammal, bird, or fish that has to be killed to make it, I don't see anything wrong with it.
...at the same time, it's kind of scary how smart those people with the white jackets are...

I probably wouldn't eat it, I don't eat meat anyway. It's kinda gross IMO.
